Save some cash, send some e-mails, build an online presence and hit the streets. It's very easy to get into and get started, but fucking hard to master.

Lost £5,000 of my own money on the last event I did. Needless to say I stopped promoting after that.

Sounds like a ridiculous amount of money I know, but when you consider the venue was 1,500 capacity and my break even was 800 heads, IF it'd sold out I'd of made a fair old wedge - as it turns out, only 400ish turned up. Error.

Fine line between winning and losing in that game, and unless you've got the money to front and are fully prepared to lose it all, then don't bother

That being said, I've done parties that were essentially 'micro promotion' where you set yourself a limit, say £20, and have to promote using that only. Get yourself a free to hire venue, make your own flyers, book your mates, free Facebook page etc etc...not as hard as you might think.

Obviously the issue comes when you've done a few of these and you're looking to book a guest and have to splash a bit more cash...

(at the time, we were lucky and got John B to play for us for £300 )
