What octave is your sub in?

I recently played a track to some one who said the first thing he would do, would be to transpose my sub from G1 to G0 and boost the db by 10. Which he did and it sounded really deep and really good. Unfortunately at home I have ADAM A5 monitors which cant really produce anything from the C0-B0 range but now whenever i play my sub in the C1-B1 range it sounds to high and weak but I cant constantly be using headphones to create and very hard to write tracks when you cant hear your Sub!!

So what octave is everybody writing in and if its C0-B0, how do you make it audible without buying new speakers?

Somewhere in the 40-50 hz range is where it hits hardest..

But yeah between 40-55 is good imo.

you won't hear G0 at all my man - it's probably an octave higher at G1.. It is a good note though, 808s sit around there/G#.

I enjoy C1 as a pure sine wave but even that doesn't register on some club systems.

i usually put my sub on the c3 octave on fls piano roll, not sure what that is in actual musical terms though

I use 0 octave if its a straight sub, no midrange with the patch. Also, it depends on how you create your patch since there will be other oscillators working on other octaves, right?

I normally place my sub E1-F1 so its hitting round 41-43hz, maybe lowpass round 45hz

use a spectrum analyzer if you don't have proper monitoring! 35-80 Hz is range you want to be in!

It also depends on the room, some frequencies sound louder due to the acoustics of any given room. Spectrum analyzer and headphones are the best ways to be sure your on the money. Once you have the subs settled, switch back to your adams and leave it in the back of your mind.

I usually check this with SA, and when i have the sub round where i want it to be, i go to my car and listen the track with subwoofers to get the real deal how loud the sub is, if it needs to be turned up or down i do couple of different mixes and when the sub is at the right volume i dont have to worry about it anymore.

Most of my tracks are F m. Sometimes F#m and even less Dm. That being said, I find F0 is really the sweatspot at ~44 htz. Don't really go below that... or above, even.
