old BBC Radio 1 documentary from 2003 exploring the emergence of 8-bar Grime and Dubstep from the UK Garage scene in London.
and what's better than a 17 year old Benga making a Grime beat on Playstation music 2000. "11:44" ahah fucking Classic!
I believe this is the period of time in which Dubstep as a name had just emerged and wasn't even generalized with a 140 bmp halftime rhythm let alone "wobble bass". The following year 2004 saw tracks such a Skreams Midnight Request line solidify the half time Dubstep sound we all know and love today i guess... well... untill mid range cack fart noise Brostep came along. I kind of miss the times when Dubstep was closely associated with UK Garage and Grime instead of Jump up DnB, (not that I have anything against that sort of DnB) Techno, Electro, Heavy metal and now pop.. *sigh*
Ironic how the genre was created to escape the mainstream Garage sound and now Dubstep is pretty mainstream itself. things go full circle huh?
very interesting listen.
oh and while im here.. anyone happen to know that Garage beat @ 10:20 ?? pretty much all of the music in this is sick! haha
would be appreciated
