Best Headphones for around $100

Can't blame people who aren't fully immersed in the scene for being taken in by clever marketing. When I was still in London, I'd see on average 4/5 pairs of Beats a day.

Whether they're any good or not is irrelevant...if they have a name attached and a lot of people wear them and they're noticeable, people will want them.

These are casual listeners...they're not audiophiles, they're not DJs, they're not producers. They're just people who want to listen to music and wouldn't mind looking 'cool' whilst doing it. As such, Beats fill that particular gap of the market perfectly. SkullCandy tried a similar approach a couple of years ago but lacked big name sponsorship to really achieve a decent share.

This is very very true man. People believe anything they see and if they see people like Dr. Dre or famous people wearing it, they are gonna buy it (with their parents money)
Some kids in my school associate these stupid headphones with swag, and it hurts my soul to see that.

Kids who wear them, are apparently "cool".

And the iPhone has a shitty camera, dangerously slow connection speed when not on wi-fi, tendancy to drop signal all over the place, proven issues with the case causing signal interference, and has a screen that breaks if you so much as look at it funny.

But iPhones still sell like hot cakes. Clever marketing b2b desire based high impact branding.

I think the HD-25IIs look better and certainly sound better for the same price. I've listened to Beats headphones. A big meh.

If you were considering beats for music production, you have no business being here.

Research guitar center and find one with a low range of like 10-15. My first pair was some Shure SRH440s.

10-15 hz? No system hits that at decent levels, let alone a pair of headphones.

Anyway, op didn't specify whether it's for production or not. So Grado is definitely a goo choice.
Otherwise maybe AKG or Sennheisser.

Look into the Shure SRH-440s, not as common as the HD280's, similar price tag, but supposed to be more neutral. I love mine, they sound really clear, a bit bright at first, but after a short burn-in period they become really really well balanced. Highly recommended!

superlux HD681 are amazing, im starting to prefer them over my sennheiser HD650's since they don't rip my hair out whenever i take them off.
what's great about these unheard headphones are they cost £20 / $30 and they're neutral as fuck (apart from the harsh highs at first, but they calm down once you burn them in/use them for a week or so)
i just lower 16khz by a few db and they sound nearly as accurate as my HD650's, even without using an amp on them. iv been using HD650's for 3 years straight and these £20 headphones don't feel like a downgrade.
look up some reviews for superlux HD681 they honestly do the job for me.

yes id definitely recommend them if your on a budget, the bass and mids aren't coloured at all (good for mixing down) and the stereo image is accurate too since they are semi-open cans.
the treble at 10-15khz is pretty high but the overall quality is good (id suggesting EQ cutting or just remembering that the treble is a bit high)
i can't tell a great deal of difference between them and my HD650's (which cost over £300) after EQ cutting a bit of the treble.
they need a few days of blasting music too tbh.
theres a freq response chart to show what i mean (half way down the page) it has a pretty flat response.

Hey Guys, thanks so much, for all the awesome suggestions, well just letting you know that I actually bought a pair of Sol Republic HD Tracks. Extremley happy with the purchase, the bass is amazing, deep and powerful, the mids and highs are clear and defined, yes, they look really fashonable too but I didn't have to be a swag faag and buy beats. Love the toughness and customization of these headphone too, I have been changing the headbands around too. Damn comfortable too.

I have actually compared my $170 HD Tracks from Harvey Norman, to my friends $500 Beats by Dre Pro from JB-HIFI, and they sound so much better, the bass is better, the mids and highs also sound better! Sucks to be a swag faag! haha. So I am loving them so much, can hear awesome sounds love it. The only downsides I have had you can hear it through the cord if you move alot, not too bad really, and also you can everything sometimes, my mum could hear her orchestra licking there lips when playing clarenet? haha
