Just got my own DayZ hive running locally on a MYSQL database now...you can connect through the standard in-game server browser whenever it's up!
Any ninjas want to fuckabout in a heli, search for the NEXT HYPE! server, I can modify your inventory and shit after a server restart 8)
(this is separate to the main DayZ hive, so you won't lose or be able to transfer shit)

played with wobbles a shitload last night, then due to insomnia ran about in the wee hours of the morning hunting for camps to no avail
headed back inland found a fully functional chopper, flew that for a bit then left it in worse for wear shape and now am camped a lil bit outside the northwest airfield and am gonna do a barracks run (need nvgs and a gps badly)

Yeah man that sucks. I've dodged so many bullets up there. The only time I've actually been killed there though was when we had an 8 man crew and we were running about like wallies

I dunno if I'm going to bother playing this on normal servers til they've patched out all the duplicating/exploiting/hacking and fixed at least a significant portion of the bugs.
It sucks to spend hours fixing a helicopter and then have someone steal it  but it REALLY sucks to spend hours fixing another helicopter then lose it mid-air when your internet connection dies and all your buddies crash and burn.

The only place I've ever found NVGs or GPS is from a person I'd killed or a tent I'd raided. Apparently pilots from crashed helicopters drop them sometimes but I've only just become aware of that so can't verfiy!

There definitely is (or was) NVG, GPS, etc at these bases:
LU30
007091
009088
017091
010104
006093
003061

LU70
040022
002107
004108

Whereabouts on the map did you rob the fixed up heli from?

around 030040, that nook in the treeline/field
i'm guessing it was a group that went to raid the airfield on foot and didn't leave anyone behind to protect it since it was repaired and had a good amount of fuel

How much of helicopter spawning is random? I've heard it's just any area that doesn't have buldings or trees, which is a pretty big amount of the map.

yea it's a pain finding camps (and vehicles), but there are some hotspots
wobbles saw where i setup a stash spot and i found 2 other camps by it and when we were out and about i came across a random tent in the middle of the night
your eyes will start getting trained to look out for the stuff

also anyone who missed combined ops while it was on sale on steam it's 20% off on gamersgate.com atm

Repairable helis are only spawned once per server at the moment. The only confirmed spot I've found is on Skalisty island...I'll figure out where the rest are when I can be bothered!

Crashed helis are weird. Been looking through the server side code. The first two crashed helis on a map will spawn in any clearing/s within 1km of the first person to join the server after a restart. After that, I think they're randomised but I can't be sure, the code is pretty fucked up! I think it has a lot to do with how many people are on the server and some randomised shit.

they're randomized, but that map i linked is all the spots they randomly can pop up
i've had the best luck for crashed helis around 114075 on most servers

the problem with vehicles is people hoard them in their camps and helis are the most sought after

ok, i cleared out of there. But even when I emptied the tents, I couldn't unpack them, I thought you could?

I'll set up a site for you guys. So if you die, you just need a map then you can run straigth there and gear up. That's what I do.

If u need any of the items i have currently i'll leave them for you somewhere.

But it's good also to die and practice close-quarters-combat in the cities for a while.
