What's up with that? I think you guys don't know what chillstep actually means. It's a very very small genre. You probably think when some people say Chillstep they mean artists like digital mystikz, Vex'd or old Skream stuff or whatever. Sure there are some stupid people who call "less dirty" dubstep "chillstep" but that's not what the people like me, who know about true chillstep mean with it. Have you ever heard about artists like Sizzlebird, JacM or nExow?

Theres no such thing as chillstep, its called dubstep..

Having ambient sounds, trancey synths and melodious instrumentation doesn't make those artists worthy of their own genre. Its just dubstep. Chillstep's a tacky word anyway, as is basically anything else you attach to '-step' other than the well-established ones.
Also: we think Vex'd is 'chillstep', huh? lmao, not even slightly dude...

Chillstep is not a real genre. Its just a name made up by youtube users to describe dubstep. Just call it dubstep and move on. Check out Burial if you like the "Chill" home listening side of dubstep and welcome to the forum!

Chillstep has a big community already. I don't see why you guys don't want us to call something Chillstep. Can't Dubstep have subgenres? Or if you see it so strictly forget about it as a Dubstep subgenre, see it as a 2-step subgenre and that's it.

Some people just cant adapt, a lot of them dont even recognize bassdubdrum as a genre. Makes me sick

Hello, my name is Epology, i've been on this site for a few months, but haven't gotten a chance to post much... So here it goes, I have been making EDM for 3 years under a different name, but I have since changed names and styles and started producing dubstep in September of 2011. I have nothing to add to this thread other than the below.
Chillstep is a fucking retarded term and anyone using it an idiot. What really grinds my gears about this is the fact that seemingly, anything that isn't "nosebleed tearout" is referred to as "chillstep". It's stupid. I'm assuming (rightly or wrongly) that it was an American that coined this term. I saw someone referring to Seven's "Stormz Over Mars" as "chillstep". It's dark and evil and its sick. There is nothing "chilled" about it. Just because it doesn't contain dentist's drills, does NOT mean it's "chilled". If you were referring to Phaeleh's "Afterglow" or something, I could at least understand that because it is a very relaxing, emotive tune. BUT DUBSTEP/DUNGEON/DEEP IS NOT FUCKING CHILLED.
