Good job Seamless. Not much of a fan of the sounds themselves, but your tutorials push me harder to experiment.
...in my opinion

Anyone know if there's a way to add harmonics to waveforms in FM8?

To get the same effect in FM8 you have to modulate OP 1 with OP2 with OP2 as the fundamental, and then mod OP1 with OP3 as the harmonic frequency. You have to use multiple OPs in non Sytrus FM synths to mimic the effect of Sytrus' additive OSC panel.

Can't you load custom waveforms? In that case, build the waveform in an additive synth and bring that into FM8.

You can totally do that too :]

Really nice tutorials man. I'm only just starting out with FM synthesis, and I don't really understand what exactly the mod X is modulating in Sytrus. I played around with and apparently it's some instant vowely knob but what is it modulating really? Some kinda filter, distortion, what is it? Anyone know or am I being retarded?

Freshest track atm.

The X is set to control the "MOD" amount. The "MOD" amount is modulation amount. In this instance, the modulation amount going into OP1 that's being controlled.

Idk if you can or not. I'll look into it though, thanks :)

Yeah I get that, but modulation just means something is altering something else. It's like saying turn up the Macro 1 in Massive. What is it linked to? I guess it might be the amount of frequency modulation from the other oscillators going into Osc 1 after playing around with it though.

Yes, sorry. I was referring to "modulation" as "frequency modulation". The matrix determines which OPs FM how much into other OPs and the "MOD" section of the target OP determines the overall FM going into that OP. Then I automate that with X.

I checked and it doesnt look like you can, but no worries. I'll figure something out.

Sytrus FM, Vocodex, and Harmor resampling bass free FLP

Post by Seamless » Mon Aug 13, 2012 10:32 pm

In the description of the video there's a download for the FLP. The video goes over what's in the FLP and demonstrates the sounds. If you want to know more about how to make the sounds, check out the previous videos in my channel (also located in a thread here somewhere :])

Enjoy

FM8 has an AU or RTAS or whatever logic uses, right? And I'm sure there's some Vocoder in Logic. One of these days I'll do an FM8 tutorial :]

How To Bass 5: FM8, Toxic Biohazard FM

Post by Seamless » Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:44 pm

This one shows you the super basics of the kind of FM bass stuff previously accomplished with Sytrus in other plugins such as FM8 and Toxic. This is for the people who are unable or unwilling to have Sytrus itself :] Since it's better.

It is.

The Making of Bass Antics

I guess I'll just use this thread as a "Seamless Stuff" depot :]

This is a video going in depth on a track I posted prior (the previous video in my channel). Showing usage of FM bass as well as some Vocodex stuff.

FM Synthesis in bass from the ground up

Post by Seamless » Thu Aug 23, 2012 1:48 am

In this newest video of mine I discuss the super basics of FM and demonstrate it visually. I also discuss and demonstrate how to get the vocal effect as well as why it happens. As well why triangle waves achieve this effect better.

Near the end I show a little trick you can do when the higher harmonic input is separate from the primary FM OP. Note that this Matrix setup can also be applied in other FM plugins such as FM8 as I didn't do anything they couldn't do.
