Maybe you should make an overrated threads thread.

Battle of Los Angeles.

Loved it when it first came out but there was something a bit too clinical about it, got bored of it far quicker than the first 2 albums

It just seems that people are way more motivated to hate on stuff rather than support it. It's not like over rated means anything

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is still an unfuckwitable classic though.

Battle of Los Angeles.
I kind of still love this album, but finally, we agree... definitely overrated! :w:

It's just for fun really... half the stuff I've posted I actually like, but other people like far too much. We're all disagreeing with each other too, so it's not like the forum are saying "You're a dick if you like these albums" en masse.

I agree when it's a thread specifically hating on a certain artist or whatever... but this is pretty harmless. It's just something to pass the time.

Of course, it could be argued that jumping into a thread just to complain about the thread is just as negative behaviour... that's a purrrty glasshouse you're throwing stones from... :P

Yeah it's a fair point. I just find the idea of overrated and underrated kinda arrogant.

I never really got Scuba's first album,
perhaps we do have A Mutual Antipathy
or maybe it lacked substance.

Fair enough. I figured all the disagreement and LOLs should be enough to demonstrate that it's all fairly light-hearted opinion and pretty harmless... having a bitch and moan is useful for the psyche sometimes (as you're currently finding out, I suspect ;-) )

But anyway... back to albums that in my extremely humble opinion have been a little bit overhyped by the media:

Bob Dylan - Modern Times
I bought this because a review told me it was "Back to the standard of Highway 61 Revisited". It's most assuredly not.

Actually, despite him being possibly my favourite act ever, I could go on about overrated Dylan albums all day.

Yes, this. DO NOT GET. I saw about half of Roger Waters performing the whole thing live at Roskilde the other year. In the end we just couldn't take it anymore... went to see Tool. Tool were great. 8)

I hadn't read the thread like :D

That said I'd prefer a shit album thread to an overrated one but that's more one of my own bug bears.

I agree. I just don't "get" burial, i thought I did once but then I listened again and it had gone.

Anything by burial is generally overrated, people cream themselves over his music like he's the new mozart.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Never really understood the hype on this. Blue Lines and Protection most-assuredly-fuck-yes, but Mezzanine seemed to make it into all the "Best Albums Ever" lists and it was pretty mediocre compared to the rest of their work.

Propellerheads - Decksdrumsandrocknroll
"Whatdyumean MAGMA, it's like DANCE MUSIC MADE BY JAZZHEAD HIPSTERS FROM BATH! FINLAY QUAYE TOLD ME IT WAS BRILLIANT"

Coffee table as fuck. Spybreak!'s still good when it's soundtracking Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss shooting up a lobby, mind.
