The Official Growl Bass Thread
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Listened to that Centipede tune...not sure what you're trying to replicate, but I didn't find anything in there that sounded the same tonally or followed the same rhythm/pitch sequence... could you clarify?

oh for sure man, sorry. The way I have the rhythm and the lfo on the clip is not the same from centipede, but it can be changed to sound similar, I'll export a bar right now and show you guys. It's a very versatile patch where one lfo controls the wobble and the second lfo controls the vowel. Be back in two minutes with a clip!

Sorry guys, here it is. Left my mbox at my friends so I couldn't use my monitors! structure is more relevant to Centipede.

Defeater, That's a decent start I guess, not really worth a lot if you don't know how to process it though. But I see how that could work. (Also, in case you didn't know Defeater is a totally dope hardcore band, check this shit out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEFkTfGy7CQ)
Although, apologizing and then two minutes later posting that there's 'shit for growls here and no one's got the chops', is really not a great way to bury the hatchet son. But I'll let that slide, I guess we all got bad days.
Anyway, check these out and tell me what you think. Bear in mind this isn't really for a dubstep tune so I'm not going for over-the-top growlyness, it's more glitch. And also that's just some quick automation I threw on for demonstrational purposes.

There's also a couple wobbles in the tune in my sig. That was my first attempt at dub though, so I've obviously refined them a lot since.

Freshest track atm.
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
It's really quite simple. And you don't need to use FM synthesis, you can make some really nasty growls with Massive and even 3xOsc. It's all about vowel EQ and modulation/automation.

That's a pretty neat sound there Maxaan. Definitely could see that sounding great in a glitch tune.
And yeah, I've heard of Defeater before! Haha. They are pretty legit. I hadn't heard of them before I started producing under the alias
and I would like to change it, but I have releases under Defeater and don't want to lose my little following, etc...

Growls in centipede sounds more lo-fi, bitcrushed. You could throw some bitcrusher on this growl. Also, use portamento. It's bad when you hear different notes playing. Growl is meant to be dynamic, you know.DefeaterDub wrote:Sorry guys, here it is. Left my mbox at my friends so I couldn't use my monitors! structure is more relevant to Centipede.

It is portamento. Thanks though! But yeah totally, It needs more processing
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
It gets so tedious drawing curves for hours but it has to be done

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
whats good ya crazy bastards
just came to support the use of massives filters without so much external filtering to create some gnarly sounds.
this bass is a saw with a bend - and bend + osc as well.
wavetable, intensity, phase, ring modulation, 2 filters, eq and sample and hold are all automated under 2 seperate macros, one for the most movement in the growl, one for brightness and extra resonance/tighter bandwidth to create those more scream-like growls, the 2 filters i took advantage of was double notch and band reject. both with high resonance and tight bandwidth. I also played with the frequency dial to create the most appealing spot for the sound. it gets really formanty when all of these are automated at once, the only external effect here i used was ohmicide and a bit of chorus to make her a bit more 'cinematic'

My best growly growl yet. It's awesome. I'm proud of it. I can post some info about it if you want.
