It was on tv so apparently I missed the best part then. Special effect weren't bad though. but I thought the story was absolute shit.
So the plan was that he would help this alien to get some fuel for his spaceship so that the alien could fly him to the his homeworld where the alien could heal his hand. But then suddenly he beats the alien to the ground, steals his spaceship with his son still on board and proceeds to fly to the alien's homeworld himself (what's he gonna do when he gets there?) which leads to him getting shot out of the air by a bunch of missiles... Maybe I didn't quite get it and I really don't care either, but at that point I said to myself "fuck this" and turned the tv off.

Good choice, have you seen The Descendants yet? I imagine you'd enjoy it.

No, it's on the list though
I go through spells where I watch Clooney films in a row...last time it was Up In The Air followed by Ides Of March, which in turn led me to rewatching Drive to get my Gosling fix for the week.

I did a similair thing on the plane to Australia. Watched The Descendants, Ides Of March and Up In The Air one after the other.

I think Clooney was best in O Brother Where Art Thou, and Men Who Stare at Goats. Three Kings gets a shout too, him Wahlberg and Cube made a good team on screen, and Spike Jonze as the crazy redneck haha.
District 9 was good but could have been so much better. Still pretty amazing for a 'cheap' mostly independent film. Certainly better than the scifi Hollywood puts out these days with more than quadruple the budget. D9 was 28 million I think which is a lot of money but just a fraction of what Hollywood puts into its lame movies these days.

Coz I heard it was so terrible it would be amusing, it's the most awkward film I've ever tried to watch.

Currently watching Gran Torino, i enjoyed it last time but it seems really staged and a bit awkward this time.
