One of the comments:
Take a daily 20 minute power nap. Why? Thomas Edison used this technique to free his brain and access his superconscious mind for out-of-the-box ideas. He would sit in a comfy chair, clutching a handful of ball bearings, and go off to sleep thinking of whatever project he was working on. As he fell asleep, his hand would relax and the ballbearings would fall onto the floor with a clatter, waking him up. By doing this, he trained himself to be able to stay in that most creative alpha state between wakefulness and sleep. Many of his most brilliant ideas and insights came to him this way (source: http://www.wilywalnut.com/sleep_to_succeed.html)

When you have a new idea for a tune, instead of making a new project, add the idea to that project.

Weird. This is the fifth thread today when I read about writer's block. Didn't really know that it was such a big problem for producers. Basically any sound you insert in a DAW can set you off on a new adventure. I think it's more to do with a person's psychology, rather than not having ideas.

My advice is to listen to music. Shitloads of the stuff.

Make sure it's not just dubstep either. I listen to mostly metal and play bass in a Progressive metalcore band (New Paradigm, check us out =P). I also listen to classical, symphonic and orchestral stuff (eg hanz zimmer's stuff), and a heap of house, trance, chillstep, complextro etc.

I highly suggest listening to metal/math/djent 'core' bands (eg Periphery, animals as leaders, protest the hero). I get more ideas of of this type of music than when listening to actual dubstep tracks.

For those of you getting stuck at the 75% mark, this is the point where you have to start messing around with structure, patterns, drumloops, variation in the drops, as well as the little things like one shots, pads, and anything to fill out the track. I suppose I play in a highly technicality-orientated band so that's something I'm used to.

But Maybe that's just me.
