How to hard limit in Izotope Ozone?

Post by samdam1 » Sat Aug 25, 2012 11:43 pm

Hey guys,

What is the best way to hard limit in izotope ozone,

I can't do it without making a distorted mess lol, because I still want Max loudness

Why would you want 'Max loudness', it'll make it sound horrible even if there's no "audio distortion" hence all of the dynamic range will be eliminated. Now I'm definitely not a 'Pro' in any sense of the word, but it would appear you're doing something wrong. You should check the documentation on Ozone, a 'high class' mastering plugin like that shouldn't be distorting the signal in less you're really pushing it.

No you're completely wrong, I normally use a different type of limiter in ozone, i think its called 'IRC3' off the top of my head. You just gotta know how to have that max loudness while keeping dynamics. I'm fine with that but its a type of limiter that still has a bit of clipping once you mix it down, whereas hard limiting will not allow audio past the said threshold (i have a hangover so forgive me if i'm using some wrong words). So I want to use hard limiting while keeping that max loudness. :)

Make a nice dynamic mix then crank up the gain when/if you play it live?
Soundcloud

limiting the shit out of tunes fucks up your drums transients and makes them lose impact
sure its louder but it wont hit nearly as hard

Not if the venues system & sound engineers are any good it shouldn't.
