Basically, a bunch of Eastern European producers, lead by the Microfunk crew, held a kind of competition I guess, inwhich they made tracks using nothing other than the 808 bassdrum.
I was thinking we could have a similar thing here? where we submit tracks and hold voting rounds, like in the soundtrack competition. Or we could do what they did and stick everything into a mix if there are enough submissions. In which case, some selectivity may be required/wanted, and voting may be necessary again.
If you're skeptical, I strongly suggest listening to this mix, the capabilities are infinite!
The rules would be:
1 - Nothing other than the 808 bassdrum, no synths, no other samples.
2 - Effects are allowed.
3 - You may re-sample the kick's waves in order to use in synths that accept 3rd party waveshapes (I use FL so for me that would be things like 3xOsc, Sytrus, Toxic Biohazard etc.) or Granular synthesis, if there's a difference
For more info head to iambop.com or checkout the link I bbc coded above. Note, the microfunk website is in Russian, so translate it with your browser. Some things may be poorly translated but you should get the gist of things. The iambop.com site is in English.
If this does take up, we would all have to use the same bassdrum in order to make it fair, so I'll post a sample of mine.
808 Sample - If you're interested you may start now, I think we should have a general vote now on when the deadline should be.
