Live Laptop DJing

Post by Kingofstreet » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:43 am

I was wondering, for those of you who use a laptop live, how do you connect it to the venue's sound system and what do you use beside that?

I'm currently trying to find a laptop that has Firewire (my audio card uses it) and its impossible to find a good laptop with it.
So how do you connect your laptop?

If I bring my Firewire soundcard - then I usually connect RCA out -> RCA in or dual 1/4" in to the venue's system.

When I am without my Firewire soundcard - I connect audio out from the laptop (1/8") to RCA or dual 1/4" to the venue's system.

Basically - some venues have you plug into the house DJ mixer.. in which case, it usually is RCA. If the venue uses DI boxes, then it is dual 1/4". If you have a gig - ask the venue how they want you to plug in.
