Crackly feedback with my mixes
recently i've been getting this probably when recording my mixes: When i listen to them back they have this distinct crackly/popping sort of sound. You can hear it a bit at the start of this mix but i think it's getting even worse now.

What is it and how do i get ride of it?

Clipping? Are things running too loud? They might be in the red visibly, but in some situations you don't see it. Try turning things down at different stages to see if you can't find it.

Re: Crackly feedback with my mixes
it's not the clipping because the crackling happens before i play any of the music (for example if i leave 5 seconds before the mix actually starts i get the same crackle). Plus i keep my trims very low.
actually im only ever able to turn my trims up the tiniest bit without the the waveform going well over 1.0 even though its no where near red zone. perhaps that has something to do with it?

Re: Crackly feedback with my mixes
could be level and/or impedance mismatch; the mixer is putting out line level and your box is setup for a DI-- it'd also bring the mids forward, and shave off some high end.

Re: Crackly feedback with my mixes
very likely. how do i go about fixing that matey?
if it helps i am using Pioneer DJM-700 mixer and i have a mini jack to dual RCA cable. The mini jack is plugged in to the computer's headphone output, and the RCA cables are plugged into the mixers REC input.

Re: Crackly feedback with my mixes
yikes-- ok then it's probably just internal noise from the computer. a $35 griffin imic will solve that, and the sky's the limit upwards from there.
you can stream stuff out of a computer, sure, but it almost always sounds awful going directly into the audio in. you'll hear data being transferred, the hard drive spinning, etc, etc.
