I don't even use compression and I'm pretty sure my mix is fucked up. But I just wanted to get a few impressions and opinions on it.

My understand is:
The method of compression, is to limit the peaks, so you can raise the track volume as a whole, without there being multiple different freq ranges peaking at different times..
A good compressors pays off.. I like the one that came with my Scarlett 2i2, but there are tons of Freeware VST's on the market...
