Where to get vocal samples from?

Post by Draffacake » Sat Jan 07, 2012 3:27 pm

I was listening to some diplo and moombahton and whatnot and they all seem to have loads of random vocal samples and i was wondering if anyone here knows where to get decent vocal samples the like.

a lot of stuff you hear will have bits taken from things like old soul and funk records, this is how Liquid Funk drum and bass got its name (or so i believe). It is a very common occurrence in all dance music actually.

There are royalty-free vocal sample packs available however but I would be a bit hesitant to use them as there are bound to be many other people with the same sample packs that would instantly recognise the samples used so, to them, your track may seem devalued a bit.

Search youtube for r&b songs, find one you like then search for the acapella. You'll be surprised how easy they are to find sometimes.
Also searching soundcloud with the term "acapella" is a pretty standard approach

watch The Harder They Come, Dark City, and Blade Runner and record the audio. then take random lines from lee scratch perry interviews on youtube. seriously tho, acapellas4u.co.uk is a good place to start for vocals.

Acapellas4u - http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/
FreeSoundProject - http://www.freesound.org/
RemixComps - http://www.remixcomps.com/
Looperman - http://www.looperman.com/

All well worth investigating if you're after ready to download and use samples.

You could also do a lot worse than raiding your/your parents/your friends old music collection and sampling directly from there. If you're after a free to use sound editor, then I recommend Audacity. You just open up tunes within it, and then you can chop bits out as required.

FREE Female Vocal / Acapella tracks!!

Post by dubstepmonkey » Sun Jan 08, 2012 2:21 pm

Anyone who wants some professional Female vocal acapella tracks for free should check out Sanna Hartfield!

Google her and you'll find the vocals to download all over soundcloud and other places, and she's set up a website now with them all in one place... http://www.freevocals.com

The acapellas are mainly aimed at Dubstep, House, D&B & Bassline, but you can obviously apply them to other genres.

Cheers!

Seems like free vocals.com is growing fast :) ...there are almost 200 original .wav files to download now. They're auditioning producers to feature in a viral ad campaign if anyone is interested http://www.freevocals.com/viral-ad-audition.php

Vengeance has atleast 1 pack that has only vocals. But movies and remix competitions are good place to get samples, and those sites ppl have recommended here.

get a belt sander and wear down the vinyl till it fits in your dvd/cd/blueray tray
