Brostep - Part Deux!

Im lookin foward to hearing the brostep comp stuff

I have a new respect for brostep.
While it is technically easy to mash up a bunch of sounds, it's really tough getting those sounds to come together.
Anyone who actually tried in the brostep competition probably knows about this.

Now, the song I initially started for the competition I ended up really liking, so I'm working on that and I made something else for the Competition the day the contest ended.
Not saying I'm interested in making 100% brostep tracks forever, but in trying to make a 100% brostep track I've picked up some things that I think will help me immensely.
Anyone feeling this way?

I was surprised how much I actually enjoying making the track TBH...even though it was only a 3hr rush job, had a proper bounce in my studio chair to it when it was done

But yeah...think the whole challenge was a good learning exercise for people, not just in terms of production but also in terms of mindset. Definitely a good thing IMO, think the 'alternative genre' challenges should become a mainstay to help encourage people to think outside the box.

Yeah, although I have become a bit of a dubstep purist over the last few years and I really don't listen to any brostep any more, brostep taking no skill to produce is a complete myth, it takes a hell of a lot of skill to do it well. Sadly not many people can though, including a lot of 'big name' artists...

I think most people will admit that brostep is really good in terms of technical production. So yeah, definitely learning trying to make it.

Yes, but brostep isn't really a subgenre or a certain style, so it can be very varied. It's basically anything that people consider to have strayed too far from what dubstep was originally all about, but still gets called dubstep by the mainstream. This means it can be anything crazy over the top synth stuff to poppy melodic dance songs.

Old Datsik is some of the very few brostep tracks that I actually like, plus some Caspa and 16bit stuff

thx yeah thats what i mean like 16 bit caspa its definitly not the same as "this" new brostep something happened and i dont hate on skrillex but somehow he changed a whole side of dubstep unintentionally

Writing something outside of your normal style makes you a better writer imo

I do enjoy a lot of the guys on Never Say Die, it's fun to listen to as a production geek

i agree, its seriously hard work. iv been continiously making brostep for the past 2 years and before that i was making subby stuff and hip hop for many years.
i used to complete tracks pretty fast with other genres but brostep is extremely difficult.. creating good melodies with many different detailed sounds flowing together without sounding shit or a bit too random isn't easy at all.

Agreed. How do you guys feel about "brostep" tracks when it blurs the line between dubstep/brostep and metal? Such as Excision, Tim Ismag, Ajapai...?
