Dubstep Allstars a.k.a Promote Yourself

Post by StepMan » Sat Sep 08, 2012 9:10 pm

After Dubstep Allstars vol.7 it seems that the boys are just self promoting: Distance, Silkie and Quest.

It's poor, and DA has lost a lot of credibility in my eyes.

Must say that after N-type it started going downhill, N-type just played the top tunes of the time now it has just become a method of promoting your own bullshit and not diversifying the sound.

I rate give N-type Vol. 10 to let him set the record straight, Dubstep ALLstars not Dubstep MYstars. Else give Kromestar a go, but then again TEMPA has never been down for kromy...

Yeah Allstars 9 is a bit ridiculous with how it's 90% Silkie and Quest tunes. Found it kind of funny that Silkie got buttmad when he saw people on DSF saying that, I mean how does he not understand the problem? Kode9 could've filled Allstars 3 up with his own tunes but he chose to only put one on there and dedicate the rest of the mix to showing the diversity of dubstep. Vol. 9 is a great mix, but it's not a great Dubstep Allstars. I say give the next one to Joe Nice or someone similar.

personally, i saw Vol.8 / Vol. 9 promoting a specific sound, can't bring in 20 different artists tunes if there aren't even 20 artists with tunes of that style in the artists bag..

i seriously enjoyed 8, and only listened to 9 once from start to finish, but enjoyed it and will love it after a few more listens.

another thing to think about, is around those earlier days there wasn't really as many "styles/subgenres" back then.

or is this post made purely too annoy Quest & Silkie because they react..

That's how I view every single mix in the series. It's all about the sound a certain dj pushes more than a dubstep showcase at a certain point in time.
And out of the first 7, only Ramadanman, Kode9 and Appleblim could have promoted themselves as the rest were mainly djs, but I doubt they were asked to do this based strictly on their productions.
