Votes only count toward winning community pick, the actual winner is usually picked by the label from the bottom. On top of that the whole sign up process is broken. Activation links get sent only about half the time and when they do a lot of people still can't access their accounts.mthrfnk wrote:How so?Attila wrote:Its bullshit, and I wouldn't worry about it unless you want a $50 beatport gift card for community vote.mthrfnk wrote: Also - anybody know about the voting procedure for beatport comps?
Figured the voting might be like this. It's gonna end up with semi-well known producers getting mad votes. Varien is a prime example, his remix already has like 15k plays, I guess he's been promoting it via his twitter/youtube. Bit lame though since the rules state producers who earn a living of production aren't eligible to enter... and he has a few beatport releases and a mix on Skrillexs Bangarang EP... oh well, still gonna finish mine and maybe try and get some promo on some blogs and shit.Toolman4 wrote:well here's what I'm gathering from reading the rules:
"3. THE CONTEST.
(a.) Determining the Winner. Starting September 19, 2012 and ending on or about October 3, 2012 (such period, the "Voting Period"), users of the Beatport site will review the Entries and vote to select their favorite entry to determine the top ten (10) favorite Entries (“Votes”) and, representatives of Big Beat and the artist p/k/a “Skrillex”, subject to availability (the "Judges") will review all eligible Entries" etc etc etc.....
So when they say USERS of the Beatport site will review entries, does that mean people of the community like You and I are going to vote to get the top 10 tracks wherein the label will only listen to the top 10? Because I had a hard time believing they were going to listen to each and every remix posted...And if so, I kinda feel a bit discouraged. Now I know that's the wrong attitude to take with opportunities, but I don't see how this will be any different for a zerg fest of self promotion and vote for vote promises people are already starting on the comments for certain tracks. At the least, most imo, are pretty shitty and seem to have been slapped together. In all honesty, massaphekt and mthrfnks remixes are pretty dope compared to what's out there atm. I have a quick bit of my unmixed/eq'd/compressed/mastered version to see what you all think:

For me I hate the high pitched bass that is such a focus of the track. Trying to incorporated that sparingly, maintain original vibe, and blend with my own sounds is proving a bit more difficult when I HATE that screech
Label reps aren't gonna look through 1000 remixes though, they're clearly just gonna look through the top voted ones.Swelly wrote:Beatport remix comps have two "winners". One is a winner by most popular vote amongst other entrants or users. The other winner is the one that was chosen by the label reps.
Fair enough, do you have a link to the results of that?Swelly wrote:Never know man, the zedd remix comp judging period was extended because there were so many entries. Gotta have faith!
No, they literally listen to them all. Zedd was talking about how overwhelming it was listening to every entry, but that he had a pretty solid method to get through it faster. Said it usually took him five or so second to decide whether a remix was even worth listening to or not...and 99% of the remixes for these things are god awful with extraordinarily sub par production. I do agree that they need to be stricter on who can enter though. People were bitching about one guy who didn't win because he already had a couple eps go to #1...if I remember correctly Zedd said he had like 300 soundcloud plays when he won his contests haha.mthrfnk wrote:Label reps aren't gonna look through 1000 remixes though, they're clearly just gonna look through the top voted ones.Swelly wrote:Beatport remix comps have two "winners". Exactly this. I've got my structure done (as you can see above)... I'm planning to spend an hout a day until like the 16th on it, then spend a day "mastering it" and submit on the 18th. Hopefully it should come out sounding good, then imma spam the shit out of promo'ing itToolman4 wrote:Cheers![]()
I will be giving myself the best benefit and wait as long as possible. I think that each time I go back to the track and work on it, I get a new idea, want to change/improve something...and more times that not it IS an overall improvement.
Sept 18. One week. As they say, You miss 100% of the opportunities you don't take. Mine as well take it seriously
