I personally stick to camelcrusher and camelphat. But as an FL user I actually get a lot of use out of blood overdrive as well. But I think more than anything I really like the acmebargig amp emulators. You can get some really great distortion out of the guitar amps. Most of them are free and are rather good quality.

I can't see what's the damn fuzz about camelcrusher, you can use it for slight distortion but anything more than that and it just gets muddy as shit on a bass. There are no tweakable parameters either, I dunno. I think people just like it because it's easy to use.
izotope thrash is cool too, some of the sounds on there are really 'analog', like good guitar amp distortion. Can make a synth sound more organic. I find it hard to get to sound good sometimes though so I rarely use it.
