@mthrfnk i love the melody after 2:00. levels and mixing are totally off. im guessing you dont have monitors... lol

That really doesn't help, any insight into what's off? Like what's too loud, what's too quiet on your setup?

Your track is really nice man, not really a fan of the female vox overall, they're a little irritating but tbh it's not my style - but it is well produced. Nice work man.

As much as that's a nice gesture I want to try and improve my mixes myself, even though I have a poor listening setup. Also considering this is for a competition, would be a bit silly to get someone else to mix it. Honestly I'd appreciate any tips or pointers on how to improve it. :)

@kolto - mix sounds huge on this. synth contrast is really cool. love those wobs. great work!

@blorg - this tracks bumpn. bass in pulsn'. mix sounds really good on headphones. keep it up.

@mthrfnk - skrillex remix sounds great man, im glad it didn't go the squelchy route. that second half sounded a bit to upfront in the mix. intro an outro melodies are nice. good job man.

tried making some older style dub wobs for fun.. kinda started sounding cool in places.

jimbeaux: cool synths, man! I like those wobs. I wonder what they'd be like with some resampling/chopping/more distortion...I'm sure you could get some even cooler and more varied sounds just by playing with those samples.

bl0rg: sounds awesome man! Not a big Antwort fan, but that remix sounds tight. Drums specifically!

Kolto: Most of it sounds good. The drums are a little muffled and the kick gets lost in the mix at points, but the synth work is fantastic :D I'd add more treble on the snare and try sidechaining the other sounds to the kick and snare a little more to get them to punch through (if you already have them sidechained I'd do it a little bit more if it were my track :)

Hey guys, tried to improve my remix, looking for more feedback - especially on the mix:
Soundcloud

Feedback for others:
@nanocloud Nice beats, nice basses too - the way you've chopped stuff up is nice too. One criticism, everything seems to be a little too distorted, maybe try toning down the crushing on certain elements since it gets a little tiring on your ears after a while. Good work though.

@jimbeaux Nice wobs, reminds me of a track from a couple of years ago - can't remember the name. Try widening your mid range out a little, everything seems really central. Not what sure else to recommend, perhaps try working on the mix of the drums.

@Kolto I like the vocals although they seem a little off time. The background work is nice though, the drums are really punchy and the sub sounds good. Try fitting the vocals in at the start better. Aside from that everything sounds nice, I like the drop a lot. Good work man.

Can you guys point me where I'm out of key? on my soundcloud or time wise for can't be too cautious? I'm going to fix it up one final time and then try and get it mix and mastered.

Give 3 other people feedback first is the idea of this thread. ;-)

oh I already have, without even posting a tune. ;-) Probably about 6. But I will again anyway because I love giving criticism :corndance:

Guess I'll start with Jim'

imbeaux: Loving the old style wobbles you got going on there, quite lightsabery, be sure to EQ one of the wob's higher frequencies a little so it's not so sharp.
Also, throw in some ambience somewhere or some high pitchy synth's, I know you just started the tune but keep in mind a tune is a tune, don't forget structure!

@mrFnk' It's great seeing you progress man, you're really starting to pull out some good stuff overtime. There's not too much I can say other than work on your mix down's a little, some of the ambient background quick sounds are sometimes hard to catch, maybe raise them just a very tad'. That remix bun dem compettition' is so-so to my tastes but I feel you did a good job on it :) . Wish I could tell you more Than this. Speed up the background synth at around 1:00 to 1:03 right before the drop. then slow it down again right at 1:03 like a slow to fast kind of thing back to slow, that little nice bell sound or w/e it is. That's my only suggestion for you Fnk, try it and tell me how it sounds.

@bl0rg I really can't get into that style of music so it's not really in my best interests to give you feedback or in your best interests to get feedback from me but I can try. On my speakers some of the vocals are pretty high making my ears hurt. I know it's my personal sound system but I figured I'd give my two cents and say to try to lower the vocal just a little bit. It's quite loud and keep in mind. I love loud music

Edit: Nevermind on my song, I found it and it was only one part I'm assuming lol. unless you hear it elsewhere. Also upgraded the drums a bit and flipped some of the drum pattern tunes.

Nvm saw what you said.

:) Your synth is a little too high pitched for the song. And needs a tiny bit more reverb. That's what I caught with my ears anyway.

@muon: Sounds pretty good man! i think the kick could be a little punchier, and I'd bring out the snare a bit more! Don't be afraid to let it thwack through (in my opinion, of course). Production-wise it sounds absolutely solid :)

@mthrfnk: New remix sounds cool! I left feedback on your soundcloud :D

@adoverloving, the use of the vocal sample, really nice done. I don't like the sound in the break at 1.29, sounds a lil bit harsh. maybe got the percussion a bit more upfront in the mix?
@koltoI find this a very strange song, you got the laidback dubvibes, but also those high pichted glitchy sounds at 1.24 for example and somehow those 2 don't add up for me. I do like the part between 2.16 and 3.19ish. also the mix is kinda bland. atm i'm not feeling this. sorry man.
@blorg feeling this! Don't have any real feedback on it but it's cool.
@mthrfnkfirst off, song is nice man, made some good progression on it. things I feel how the mix could be better: the kick/snare/high hat are quite dry, maybe give them a lil bit of reverb? I do feel that the kick/snare are drowned by the main synth in the mix. the percussion after the second drop is really soft, I allmost don't hear em.
the vocals are perfect in the mix.
(i've listened to this song on my hd 25)
@muon:the snare can indeed be a bit louder, the 'tthhwwrrrpp' sound at 1.00 min + is a bit loud, would maybe be cool to get it to move from left to right?during the break at 2.30 the synth could be a bit louder.

@bl0rg: Everything seems quite well. Little bit loud but that could be just how loud I got my speakers.

@mthrfnk: Digging the intro scrolling through radio thing. Kick is a little quiet, maybe turn it up a hair.

@Muon: The first sound in the song is a little loud unless you intend that then I guess it is fine. Your clap is pretty quiet. Your sub is little weak but it is fine try to get it to hit 60 hz.

And now for my tune! I have been spending some time experimenting making this tune so far learned many things! Let me know what you guys think of it so far.

P.s. The build up will be alot more intense!

@mthrfnk: I like the melody, sounds really cool. I think one part can be improved a bit is in the second drop where you do the staccato notes. I feel like it would sound better having those notes even shorter. I feel like the hi-hats are quite centred, panning them out a bit more might give it more space and breadth. Nice songwriting and good production overall though! I like your snare a lot too.

@Muon: That washy rise before the snare hits is a cool sound, I think either the actual snare could come up a little bit in volume, or the washy thing a little down, at least later in the track when theres more happening. Really creative song! The kick seems a little muddy, although that might be the intended effect, it just feels a bit like theres a blanket over it to me. Maybe a little more high end click in the kick would help bring it out.

@nanocloud: Sounds great man! I really like that Zedd style sound. I some of the little synth stabs in the drop could be a bit cleaner I think, although that might just be my preference. They just don't sound very..refined I guess. I think the snare could be slightly louder too. Great song though, keen to hear the end product.

@wewuk: Nice atmosphere, and really cool percussion. I really can't think of anything to improve on in this song, it's a bit repetitive, but thats the nature of this kind of music, and actually like that so forget I said that hahaha. All I could think of is to maybe have a part that builds up the tension and then releases it slowly.

@Bassf4ce: Try changing the velocities of the hi-hat to give it some more groove. Kick could use more high end and punch, try Eq-ing in some more high end, and adding some more compression. Play around with the compressor attack and release settings, a good starting point could be a quick attack say 3ms and then a 200ms release. Same thing goes for the snare. Good start!

Heres my WIP, thanks for all the previous feedback on it. Worked on the song some more, tried to improve on the things that were mentioned here and added some new parts. Disregard the stuff past about 2mins ish, thats still being worked on. Let me know what you think!

I have a few unfinished tracks I just uploaded to my soundcloud within the last week--- I would give crits but my shockwave crashed so I'll have to reload my session in just a second--- will edit

EDIT- NOKKO: Liked the hous-ey vibe coming from your tune, it just sounds like it doesn't have enough OOMF to it. You know? Throw some subs in there and it will be bumpin'. ;)

BASSF4CE: I liked your tune, I feel like it had the perfect minimal drums and simple bassline. It reminded me of some old stuff I've done. Throw some more distorted forms of your bass in there, kick up the drum volume, throw a damper on your main bass to give it a grimey-er feel and set it off bro. Haha.

WEWUK: I probably liked your tune overall best, it sounds like you put a little more time and effort into it to get the laidback and mysterious foggy atmosphere dub is loved for. I feel like the only thing you needed was a hypnotic sub or mid bassline to kick in the feel. Good work man!

Here are the few.

Tips on how to improve my song structure/bass/drums would be greatly appreciated... I'm using FL studio so its quite the pain. Lol.

Nokko - on crap headphones so can't give technical feedback. Tune sounds nice, good use of harmonics - the first bit sounds like an intro which builds up nicely - like the breakdown - reckon the drop needs to hit more, work on dynamics, i.e. take the sound down to almost nothing and then hit them when it drops

Bassface - sounds a bit basic at the moment, the bassline sounds nice although it needs to be lower in the mix so the drums kick through a bit (see gain Structure thread), also work on the drop and make that hit. Also look into doing some cool stuff with your bass to spice it up, filter it, chop it, reverse it, etc - but it's got potential!

Seriously??
This is not set in stone.
The music is what is important not the order of your song name.
