Looking for a person who can mix and master

Post by Ficticious » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:04 am

As my mix and mastering really does suck I really am looking for someone who can mixdown & Master the volume a little better. Someone whose MORE knowledgeable in this area. I don't want to seem like I'm begging but there are some things I really just can't get right. I would be MORE than pleased or happy to send out my tunes stem's to the person helping me for their practice. Your name & startup company if you have one etc. will be in the desc below and you will be given credit. I have Pro poly series 1901's and I am going to be making money soon, so I can get flat monitors. With this stuff in mind, I also am going to be buying headphones (Probably sein h's) but aside from that I do need the help for now.

Sorry if I come off seeming as a jerk, just I looked at the collab thread and there really isn't a section for this... There's a couple of tunes I really want to show or release but I want them to come out right when I do so as I've promised myself no more half ass'ed production's. Anyways, hit me up through PM or if you have a skype I'm willing to share mine for that. :Q: I've been reluctant to ask, I understand everyone has their lives and I will try not to be too bothersome everytime I make a full tune.

Anyways, if you're looking for the practice I got some complex stuff that I could have help with. on the mix downs.

P.s. I know this is tempting as F to troll me but I take my hobby/work/fun quite seriously as I am as passionate as everyone else here about music so if I may kindly ask try to take me somewhat seriously.

yes, I read just about everything including the production bible and of course directions/all that jazz. I just can't get it right because of my speakers and the way they boost certain things, I can hear sounds and differentiate them well but I can't get them to the right volume sets on OTHER sound systems. Also not having headphones at this current moment in time doesn't help much.

cross reference your mix to the mix of a tune you like and don't stop until the mix sounds the same....

I was looking at ozone for that, and watched vespers nice tutorial on it. Still couldn't get it right cross referencing my mix. Also panning out a little bit from the center to differentiate sounds sometimes can still be a little confusing.

I'll try again though. In the mean time if anybody can help me out It'd be much appreciated, via skype or elsewhere.

Why not just post it in the WIP thread and see if anyone has suggestions for you?
That is, assuming you've read the moneyshot thread.

I don't think its reasonable to expect your mix downs to be perfect right away, it takes time like everything else.
Maybe just get it to a point where you're more or less satisfied and move on.

Again I have read it.

and again

"don't think its reasonable to expect your mix downs to be perfect right away"

That's my whole point, that's why I was looking for someone who might be better. Anyways like I said, dipping into ozone a bit more..Still somewhat unsatisfied/can't seem to get it right playing with the copy-tool sound over another song.

by experimenting on my own like I have been, and learning from people better than me as well.

It's how I learn best.

To be taught after reading and gaining some knowledge from whats going on, learning tips by watching others becomes even better... Or even..

well nevermind :u: Ebhrums on my ass today' :6:

Was a joke man. :w: Iknow it will help me improve. but still. kills me knowing that I can't get all my elements to come through on the mix downs when on top of eachother. Specially on the drops. I know if they did it would make the song sound muchmuch much better.

There's a lot of stuff that can be hard to hear sometimes.

This is true...I don't think I have much of a musical talent but people tell me so, so each time I'm dissatisfied I come out with something that has to be twice as good D:

You say you cant get things sound nice in other systems. So why dont you take those parts and just listen them in some other system(s) and then try to analyze what needs to be changed. Like, you think your high end sounds to be in right level with the system you are mixing, but when you listen it with other system it sounds too loud/quiet, then just turn it up/down.
This is basically how i mix. Mix with heaphones and then take it to my car where i can listen the mix with bigger system, maybe turn the volume very high and walk around to hear how it sounds when im away from the speakers etc.

Guess I'll try making some shitty tunes and mixing those down first for practice rather than doing it on the bigger stuff that I make... but I'm getting to the point where if I can just differentiate the sounds they would sound really good, I hate holding myself back. Like drawing a great artistic piece and not filling it in with color. that's why it's so frusturating

Anyways thanks for the advice guys, probably take me a good few months to get the hang of this part. and IMo the hardest.

Practice, practice and just a tiny bit more of practice. My mixdowns were sounding absolute shit about a year ago, now they are 'decent', not too good, but it's getting there.

Believe me, just keep going and one day you'll be satisfied.
