Slime returns with an incredible debut from a new Russian producer by the name of Colorhythm. Taking the template of dubstep and suffusing it with beautiful melodies and cinematic flair, he is definitely going to be one to watch for the future.

'Nectar' rolls in on a laidback groove with crisp percussion and glittering keys, with soaring melodies and vocals sweeping through the track to take you higher.

'Blossom' is centered around a gorgeous vocal refrain that builds over a melancholy vibe before the light halfstep drifts in to add weight to proceedings. Before you know it the track switches to a garage tempo for pure elevation.

'508' builds with ominous chords before breaking away into an ascending guitar lick and sharp drumwork. Choral pads and a half-whispered vocal build the mood around the track before a subtle piano line drops in to amplify the vibes.

For the last couple of years Bristol-based label Slime Recordings have been putting out a lot of good music, generally aimed squarely at the Garage, Dubstep and Bass market. This latest offering reflects the label’s current trend to include artists from a more global pool of talent. Colorhythm is a Russian producer, and this EP is a wonderfully ethereal work that probably falls loosely into the Dubstep basket. There are plenty of twinkly melody lines fizzing about, vocal edits in the mode and warm swirling filtered synth sounds. The press release mentions something about ‘cinematic flair,’ and yeah, I think that is a fair thing to say about this EP. There is a scope to it which does make you think of a big screen production. There’s also something about some of the synth work that is a little reminiscent of the epic Bladerunner, a sort of sparse and lonely eighties synthy vision of the future.

Not your standard dubstep release, a tad more subtle. On a more chilled out vibe then the term Dubstep would suggest, and executed with quiet authority.
