Well...he is spot on about Lupe being propped up by corps, maybe not so much the rapping part.

I guess he's "propped up by corps" in the way that he has a record deal, but he absolutely aired them out over what they made him do to LASERS. Dude can rap his ass off too, but what really gets me is that Lupe's one of the few people carrying on Chuck's legacy of staying on-topic in his raps. Even Words I Never Said off the "sell out" album that might have a pop-as-fuck hook, but the raps were basically Chuck's message updated for this decade:

Yeah, but are they getting to play their messages to millions of teenagers on MTV and BET? The only Dead Prez tune most non-heads know is a dancefloor smash and Akala is largely only known because he's Ms Dynamites little brother. There's no point in preaching to the converted if you want to change the world.

Public Enemy were a big deal and they opened a LOT of eyes... they weren't backpackers making music for nerds like us and playing shows to a couple of hundred people at Kentish Town Forum, they made some pretty serious crossover records on major labels with messages attached and they're still festival headline material getting on for 25 years later; they scared the fuck out of parents because their teenage sons were bumping records shouting about Farrakhan, Reaganomics and Iran-Contra... all the while, Flava Flav hardly rapped a decent bar and still manages to run a reality-TV career, but I don't see Chuck badmouthing him on Twitter... he always knew that Flav was his tool for getting party-people into conscious music... that's no different to Lupe putting Skylar Grey on a hook, tbh... only Skylar Grey's marginally less likely to become a cracked-out whackjob.
