Which stage in the workflow do you think has the most significant influence on the final recording?

what's with these random arbitrary questions that have no reason for actually being asked? my composition, mixdown, arrangement, and sound design don't happen in stages, some of which doesn't even happen in the same project. Most important stage in your workflow? Actually opening your DAW and working

Ehh... I'll say I don't care if a good tune isn't mixed down well. Half the music I listened to growing up and continue to listen to would be laughed at (and sometimes is) by today's standards of mixing, mastering and sound design. That doesn't make them any less good because the ideas (arrangement & composition) are what make them good. Listen to any classic dnb or jungle, most of it sounds terrible from a technical perspective, but it's fucking amazing regardless.

I'd say sample digging is probably the most important stage in my workflow...but that's from a personal standpoint. Good sounds = good tunes. You can't make a good tune if the samples you're using are whack...the chiptune genre is an example of that.

sound design for sure,

cause who gives a fuck if someone makes a tune using just modern talking and scrapyard, even if its professionally mixed down and mastered. it will be stupid as hell.

isnt sound design supposed to be what dubstep it about? i mean, we are all a bunch of nerds making music with purely synthesizers for the most part. use the synthesizers to their full potential.

You're confusing dubstep with brostep.

This question is a bit silly - without any of the above being up to scratch, your tune is going to suck. The only thing i'd say is less important is mastering, as i'd rather pay an engineer to do that for a number of reasons.

And why split up composition and arrangement, how can you have one without the other?

Yeah sound design, including sample digging too. The better it sounds early on, the better it will later.

Finishing a track is the most important stage.

Composition! To be able to write music properly with no off tune/melodies is really a majorrr piece.

It goes hand in hand with arrangement (Piecing them together and such) but still. Composition is the originality within a song.
(For the sake of this thread)

All of them of course imo are equally important though.

The last one mastering not as important, but it does give that really nice finishing touch.

Truth.

Less of a stage more of an ongoing improvement plan.

Because of the limited chiptunes palette of sounds the focus is on songwriting more.
