I think New Money is when you're newly rich and there is an implication you put on heirs and try and fit it in with your wealth bracket, used as a pejorative. Old money is when your wealth goes back generations.

In the USA, old money really only exists in the northeast - new England and new York - people who have family that goes way back, a lot of the time all the way back to the puritans who first settled here, really classy old school, money's been in their family for years. a lot of them are pretty classy and cool people who don't throw their money around and don't act spoiled or anything, but plenty of them are snobby pricks too.
New money is families that really only recently got rich, they are looked down on by old money families, there's like a line that's been drawn between them, it's fucking ridiculous. Same goes for them, there are some ones who are really cool but some of them get cash and run out and make sure people know they're rich in every way possible, really crass.
