Pardon my ignorance, but what's the difference between juke and footwurk? I thought they were basically synonymous?

Juke is more straight forward and 'smooth'. A lot of it is like pretty straight forward remixes of rnb and hip-hop choons. It sounds a lot like jit.

Footwork is all over the place rhythmically and is made specifically for dance crews to dance to. Like, DJ Nate would be the one extreme that is 'footwork' and something like DJ Spinn's Planet Mu release is 'juke'.

Most producers produce both.

Been digging a lot more Detroit shit lately o.o

Soundmurderer (raggacore/jungle producer) was one of these dudes :0

That's not a rule that everyone goes by though, a lot of people do call it Juke or Footwork synonymously.

I think it's just up to you what you call Juke and what you call Footwork. Bit like where you draw the line between 'Jungle' and 'Drum & Bass'.

I think they're a bit more similar than jungle vs dnb. All jungle is dnb, not all dnb is jungle.

I don't think they're separate genres as much as.. types of trax made for a different purpose.

Yeah I was just saying it's like all people have a slightly different perception of where it stopped being 'jungle' and started being 'dnb', and it's kind of like that, everyone will have their own slightly different perception of what they'd call 'juke' and what they'd call 'footwork', so it does sort of end up being used synonymously.

Agree though, if they even are different things then they're much more similar than jungle & dnb.

I'd never be one to tell someone off for refering to a footwork track as 'juke' tbh. I even think that jit and juke are too similar to even distinguish them, but Chitown and Detroit love to pretend that what they're doing is unique :p It was more for argument's sake. It's all trax.

The fact of weither or not this can be regarded as footwork-hybrid is a bit shakey... but inspired none the less ;-)

Here's a Juke minimix teaser I did the other day, working on a full length version over the weekend; might throw some Trap in there too!
