creating a looped 808 sub bass in logic?

Post by Eat Bass » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:45 pm

i've done this before where i took an 808 and selected one solid part of the wave and looped it, normalized it, pitched it correctly and put it in esx and used it as my sub bass. but now i cant seem to do it right. when i load up an esx i get the 808 i like and drop it in the edit window of esx. i then double click the audio in the dit window and it brings up the sample editor. i select the part of the wave i want and select loop region. but when i play the esx it doesnt play the looped region it plays the whole thing. how do i get this sorted? sorry iv had some time off producing and i havent done this in a while. not sure what im missing.

just go into the audio editor and cut it down to one cycle, then put it into esx and just loop the whole audio file

well, in esx when you turn loop on, at first it is set to loop the whole of the audio file, so if you have a clean cycle cut from the 808, hen it will loop seamlessly.

you have to go into view in the esx sample editor window though and click it on so that you can access the loop controls

Just saw this today, and took these screen shots. Hopefully they help.

This shows the View button you want, click on Zone: Loop to add the columns in the EXS edit window for loop settings.

When you open the audio file in an edit window, it will be highlighted. I just did a Edit --> Selection (the highlighted area) -> Sample Loop. This adds a green bar at the bottom of the audio file on the S.Loop line of the editor, and you can drag that bar to resize the area being looped. I did one cycle of an 808 just to demonstrate. Probably want a later cycle though for a sub, just have to experiment. And then once you have the selection, tick the loop box on the EXS editor window.
