Re: Should I Start Releasing Tracks Under My Alias?
i think you're being way too optimistic tbh
if you set out with the aim of becoming famous and living off your music, it's unfortunate but you'll almost inevitably end up disappointed (even if your beats are shit hot)
however if you only really look at music as something you like doing and you enjoy the creative process, then anything more that comes from it is a bonus
if you can afford to pour everything into music then by all means do it! just don't necessarily expect anything to come from it by default
just my 2p anyway, best of luck with whatever you decide to do

You need to have some kind of quality control. Nothing bugs me more than people who's entire soundcloud is WIP, WIP2, Version 2 etc. Nothing wrong with posting that shit on production forums etc.. but if you want people to become a fan of yours then you need to provide them with a solid final product. Sure you can take things down later on in time but how do you expect people to like you in the first place if the quality isn't there?
As for producing Dubstep as a career.. I have to agree that for the most part that ship has sailed now. You've got to be someone really fucking special to be able to make any kind of living off it these days. Its not like 2 / 3 years ago when you could just make filthy sounds and get an EP deal, there are so many similar artists now that you either have to really stand out and do something different OR do what everyone else is doing but better.
But why pigeon hole yourself? Just make tunes that you like and try new things. What tends to happen is a producer will hit gold with an idea or technique then rape the shit out of it when a label is interested. Unless you're creating new ideas you're going to struggle to get that career.

Re: Should I Start Releasing Tracks Under My Alias?
Thanks for all the great advice! After I trip to the gym and some thought I'm gonna wait till my songs are of better quality to start releasing them. I'm not gonna wait till they're "perfect" per say, but I'm gonna wait till I really feel that the time is right, and then I'm gonna try to get some feedback from friends and hopefully you guys on here before I release.
Thanks again everyone!
Thanks again everyone!

This isn't true, and neither the notion that you have to be doing this 'for the love and vibes' in order the be successful.ehbrums1 wrote:if you wan to have any hope of being successful you have be doing something different with your music...

Seems to work for all top 40, pop, brostep, dungeon, DnB, trap, house, electro the list goes on. This is coming from someone who is a fan of a handful of those genres as well, being 'different' doesn't always equal 'good'. Stop worrying about trying to be different or trying to fit into a certain genre/category and just make what sounds cool to you. If that happens to sound exactly like 'producer X' who cares. If I were to blindly listen to any of UKF's channels I wouldn't be able to distinguish who is who, doesn't make them any less successful.ehbrums1 wrote:So you think that success comes with doing what everyone else is doing?Huts wrote:This isn't true, and neither the notion that you have to be doing this 'for the love and vibes' in order the be successful.ehbrums1 wrote:if you wan to have any hope of being successful you have be doing something different with your music...

I'm taking back electro. You can have EDM for all I care, except it has been used since the '90s for all kinds of electronic dance music.

Re: Should I Start Releasing Tracks Under My Alias?
Changed my mind. I decided I don't care if people think my first songs aren't good. I enjoy them, as I enjoyed making them, and even though they aren't amazing I'm going to continue posting them as I make them. First song has been uploaded to Youtube, Soundcloud, and Myspace.
Before you guys start bashing my song I'd like to say that It's only been literally 18 days since I first opened FL studio with practically no music background beforehand. I didn't mention this because I know how it is to be a new guy in an industry where 99% of people who get into it don't stay in it long enough to make something of it, as I've already made an income out of something where 99% of people struggle and quit.
So I know what it's like to look at the new guy and go yeah he'll be gone in a month or two and never come back, because that's usually how it goes.
It doesn't matter if people don't listen to or like my songs for the next 6 months or so, I'm enjoying this stuff much more than I've enjoyed anything else I've attempted. I feel like I've truly found a passion for something that I haven't felt with anything else before.
So say hello to Raging Turtle, I'm here to make music that I enjoy listening to, and we'll see where it goes.

P.S. Thanks again for all advice to my original question, it's def. appreciated.
...Ok bashfest may begin now

Do your thing man. It's a long road.
IMHO it's a bit premature to be thinking about releasing your tracks after you have only been producing for three weeks. I'm going to have to agree with Paradigm X on this.

I know what you mean, but I think it's just my personality, it's the way I want to do things. Everyone takes the road differently, this is how I want to take it.mks wrote:Do your thing man. It's a long road.

Take your time. Rushing to get stuff online after 18 days perhaps shows you have a mentality where you expect results quickly. It will take time, except that. Enjoy making music for making musics sake.
