In a word, yes.
Not sure how you spent all that time in Live and didn't see fades.
I thought this video was going to be about the ctrl-b (draw mode) + alt key "curves" but yes the fader does exist, still not a true automation curve though. The "curves" I mentioned before are the closest thing we have at this point. Try it.

yeah let's see him apply it to actual automation of say... plugin parameters

They had the sense to give us curves with the fades but not with standard parameter automation
Thankfully the feature is coming in Live 9.

when I read the title I thought that I've never stumbled across that feature for making curves in automations. Thankfully enough, this was just for volumes.
