So today was the launch in North America...
Anyone actually get one, and if so how is it?

when systems have not been released yet and developers are working on games prior to release, this is what devs get to work on to test the game. My only experience with this was before the PSP came out I worked on a PSP game and in order to develop for it we had some computers shipped from Sony to program/test on.

The dolphin was to be a CD rom unit added on to the N64 ala sega cd style that never fully developed as it eventually just evolved into the gamecube

they were thinking of making a xbox that was in a computer case so you could add onto it. it was going to come out with the slim i think

some people mod it to make it look cool, i wonder if people will do that with the wii u

The Target near me still has some in stock.
Debating snagging one up (honestly I'd like to get my hands on a dev kit, but probably wouldn't be able to at this point).
So did anyone snag one that has any experience with the launch titles and what's worth a damn, since they're all $60 a pop?

if you can find one buy it and save it for 2 weeks and make a fortune on craigslist. I'm getting up friday at 2am with my cousins and dropping 2k on 6 of them. Did it with the Wii and made a small fortune.

Played wii-u at lunch Zombie-U is great, the assasins creed is just as good as the other systems. The mario games are fun as fuck. Lot of the features are dope. Being able to play the game on the controller and turn the tv on is the best feature on any console in the history of gaming. Brilliant brilliant brilliant

if you're looking for uber dope games, wait till week before xmas or 2nd week of january when the big titles start rolling out

Yea honestly Mario, ZombiU, & Scribblenauts are the only titles that are out that interest me.
Since you might be in the know pkay, know what the process is for getting a dev kit for an indie?
Also check Target for systems they have a ton, Walmart is still taking online orders, but tack on a $60 fee of some sort.

for a dev kit, most only go to big companies... indie wise you'd need a proof of concept and likely a distro deal. Odds are your game would be finished before you were in a position to acquire one.

Yea that's what I figured, some indies have gotten kits, but mainly for ports of already released games.
They actually announced that indies will get to set their own prices and release dates in the Nintendo eshop today, so it looks like it's going to be a much friendly console in that regards compared to XBox.
Honestly I just want to do some turn based tactics dev for it atm, that controller is a god send for real time fog of war and is probably the closest consoles have gotten to pure LAN style PC play without needing multiple systems.

@south this guy is streaming ZombiU atm and it seems fun enough to me. http://www.twitch.tv/glydetv
Seems like a cross between War Z (that bad reskin of War Inc trying to copy DayZ) & Dead Island.
Then again the only sites I trust for reviews don't do consoles.

because it's not a FPS and it's pretty hard at times, and has a permadeath (kinda) in it..... so attention span challenged folks will have issues.

Sites that cater to casual 14 year olds (gamespot) gave it shit reviews

Sites that cater to longterm gamers (joystiq) have given it outstanding reviews

its a unique game and one of the better zombie games around.

The only thing that seems shit to me about it in general is the constant on screen press button prompts that you can't turn off.
I hate that shit in any game, it ruins immersion so much.

Big ass Day 1 patch
multiplats running worse than their PS360 equivalents
ZombiU getting meh reviews (which is exactly how I thought it looked, great idea, not so great execution)
and apparently it's got slower RAM than the 360

Not exactly the greatest launch. Retro or someone similar is gonna have to develop some baller ass games (cough Starfox/F-Zero/Metroid/1080/New IP cough) for me to consider one.

I'll just blame it on the no attention span dudebro gamers, they seem to be at fault for the majority of "we want the CoD audience" crap.
In ZombiU it's like every time you approach a door or items, Press X to use pops up on screen. Every time you knock down a zombie, Press Z2 to finish pops up.
It's like people can't retain the knowledge of what the games controls are for over a couple minutes -w-
