Vader 340 - Are You Ready (Dubstep DnB Filth)

Post by Vader340mk2 » Mon Oct 29, 2012 7:48 pm

Hello all,

I've just done this today, been away to Cyprus all week and was itching to get back on it, as always it would be great to get some listens and feedback/criticism. As with most my track the MD could be better but i'm learning as i go along.

Are you ready?? Cool...

I'm diggin some of the synths, but you're right about the mix...drums need MOAR POWER MAN! Also, more bass. lots more bass.

Thanks for the input Sure fire, I'm working on a re-edit and will post back hopefully today.

I think my main issue with Mixdown is that i'm quite messy and disorganised when i'm writting in FLStudio and it becomes a bit tricky to issolate sounds you want to beef up without knocking something else out of sync.

Cheers again.

OKay so i've re-edited and re-mastered the track.

I've also added a little compression to the drums and also added more subbass, cut out the subbass in the mid bass by copying and assigning to new tracks and isolating each with the EQ cut at roughly 300Htz (is that right?)

Could do with somone playing it loud on a good system and telling me if there's any flaws in the mixdown. Sounds pretty much right on my monitors and also the headphones but you can never be sure unless you can play it at all levels and i can't do that as i have scared neighbours downstairs.

Cheers

Sounding better man, I reckon that snare needs work, it seems too far back in the mix atm. Might be worth messing around with some dimention expansion/ stereo separation. If your using FL then the stereo shaper is nuts. make sure to check it in mono though.

Fuck me you got good ears, just had a look and saw the snare track was merged 100%, seperated it as you suggested and it stands out a hell of a lot more.

Cheers SF, i learnt a lot today.

Careful with that, overusing it at high resonance can make your sounds kinda noob sounding, it's a good plugin but it's better to learn how to automate EQ to get vowel sounds. I still use it to get that throaty sounding mid range without having to EQ heavily. I usually keep the resonance at about 50%, with about 20-30% overdrive.

okay cheers, i'll bear that in mind.

I've only been using it on my drum samples and melodies so far. I saw someone on youtube using it on his basslines, but he seemed to run about 4 automations on each bass synth, a bit unnecessary and OTT i think.

Cheers for the comment - I did post a revised version that was mixed down with better EQ to get more out the drums, put a lot more subbass in, and used the sterio seperation a lot more as Sure Fire suggested.
