Re: SNH free dubstep album?
All of those seem fine. Bandcamp seems like the best choice for this, as it supports many types of formats. Their terms of use basically say it's our fault if we get sued, so that wouldn't really be a problem.

But being as it would have to be done outside of DSF now, the legal issues shouldn't be much of a problem any more? I mean, there's countless labels releasing albums and tunes all over the internet every day with blatant uncleared samples and bootlegs. If there's no more association with DSF, does it still matter to be so cautious? Definite big ups though, it seems you've already put more effort into it than most labels around these days.
I have also used http://www.ithinkmusic.com in the past and it's a great service (http://www.ithinkmusic.com/terms.php). Some pretty big independent labels and artists have started using it as well, and they take less of a cut than bandcamp last I checked. Assuming it's still going to be a commercial project anyway.

Re: SNH free dubstep album?
The caution will be at each artists discretion. Your name alone will be tied to the song in question and you alone would be legally responsible. So whatever risk you're willing to take is up to each individual artist.
Nice one with the ithinkmusic, I'll check it out.
The next step is finding a satellite site where we can discuss/vote and still have everyone participate. When we refer to it on here me must specify "oh hey go vote on your favorite track for the Magical Mystery Sexy Fun Album over at blahblahblah.com!"
I'll use my blog and polls on there if you want, but I do have ads on there so I would be making a few pennies on the impressions (i doubt any ninjas are the type to actually click the ads)
just a suggestion.

Well after going through all that, a few ad clicks is the least people could do. I click on ads belonging to known ninjas anyway.
As for a super secret satellite site:
http://www.byethost.com is actually a really good free host, and they give you an admin panel with PHP/MySQL databases and everything. There's a one-click phpBB installer as well. Not the most professional thing I guess, but another idea. I had a couple of weird sites hosted on there that went a bit viral a few years ago and the bandwidth and uptime was excellent, I was really surprised it handled the traffic so well and they didn't care about crazy bandwidth spikes.

I'm going to bump this asking for expressions of interest.
I had made a thread here: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=259266

Exactly one year after the last post haha, but yeah, I agree, it would be interesting and it's sort of a shame that it appears as though nothing actually came to fruition.jonahmann wrote:I'm going to bump this asking for expressions of interest.
