Also, X-Y controllers in FL work like Abletons macro's. Like, EXCACTLY like the macros.

No they don't.

Kinda growly bassline done in 15 minutes:
Soundcloud

I know it misses its power, because there is little processing. But the timbre of the sound is just winning. I should've eq'd it first.

Without massive it'd take me hours to make it using FM synthesis, with massive: bam, two oscillators, bam, two filters, bam, some distortion, bam, ohmicide. bam done.

No serious, on my monitors there's very little actual bass compared to the midrange. :W:

I've been experimenting trying to recreate this guys bass as closely as possible, looking for anything that can help me narrow it down more. =D

no id say using formulas in the link controller options (then linking everything to 1 line of automation) is like using macros in ableton.

You need to write a FUCKING FORMULA to change range of automation of some knob.. what
It's not hard to write but cmon...

Min + Input * (Max - Min)

So for example you want to map 0.0 - 0.1 to 0.3 - 0.7

0.3 + Input * (0.7 - 0.3)

maybe I'm missing the point of abletons macro's then.

btw, you heard the track in my sig? some of the basses have timbres very much like this one. No FM8 in that song, all Massive. FM8 has too much of a dry kind of timre unless you play with the feedback from the fliter operator heaps. Like you said, it would take forever.

On a side note, some of the growls are sytrus.

Dunno if you're familiar with Errorsmith's Razor, but the formant waves/formant filter in it can get some super clean weird formants that sound similar to that video you posted. When I get home ill see if I can make some stuff with Razor and put it up here.

edit: fixed autocorrect stuff.

edit again: Soundcloud

First nine or so are made with only Errorsmith's Razor. I was demonstrating the super clean formants/vowels that Reversed was talking about. Not exactly like Tristam, but similar and possibly a method that could be expanded on. Again, they were made with only Razor, not any effects on the channel. The rest are various growls that I have made and saved as presets in Ableton. Let me know if you guys are interested in them and I can elaborate.

1. Do a simle reese bass.
2. Turn on and automate the scream filter.
3. Select frequency shifter in insert 1.
4. Dry/wet 50/50, and move the frequency a bit to the left.

@Mromgwtf (or anyone who has a good answer), those basses you posted have a lot of weight and punch in like the low mid region. When I make my growls I usually have trouble getting body in my sounds, it usually gets lost in the distortion and my growls end up too airy and hissy. Anyone got any good ways to fix this, or know what to do to avoid it?

Here's a bit I made this morning that's got a little growl in it. I've got three oscillators automating the WT-position for the movement, then an automated bandreject filter and some distortion and stuff inside massive. Then the whole thing goes through an automated EQ, multiband comp, a flanger and then some more distortion.

I think it's the core sound in massive that's just too, all over the place, but I can't really get it to sit right.

How many oscillators do you guys usually use? I'm thinking maybe I need to back and have just one or two oscillators and then really work on that until it sounds basically how I want it before fx. I'm not too sure how much processing I need to be doing, now there's a lot of difference between the dry and the wet sounds.

Edit: By the way guys, note that I posted one of my shitty growls so it would be more obvious, don't judge me :w:
