Using FX's when remixing

Say you're remixing a track that already has effects such as reverb on the stems, do you keep it as it is or do you try to cut the tail and add your own ?
When I remix something I want to take it as far from the original as possible while keeping a few gimmicks from the source, in this case I didn't even listen to the track. Most of the samples are heavily chopped and pitched therefore the original reverb loses its purpose (making the drums sound more real) but it's not totally gone either, so I added another short reverb on top of it and I'm not sure if it sounds right and if I'm "allowed" to do that (I know I'm supposed to use my ears and soul but still)
I'll try to upoad a comparison between dry and wet version if I can get it to sound decent today.

I'd ask the producer who I'm remixing for both wet and dry stems.

Yeah, that would be perfect but I can't in this case, it's a remix contest.

I like the wet version better, makes the track sound fuller.
Aaaanyways, there's nothing that's not allowed in music production, there are no rules you know, only guidelines.
If it sounds good, do it, really.

I don't why people keep posting threads asking if they're "allowed" to do stuff. If it sounds good, go with it imo.
