Franzis-D - Impetus EP
Impetus EP creeps steadily along, with faintly acidic sizzle adding a sense of menace to dubbed-out piano chords and shuffling drums, before a soaring, pitch-bent synthesizer lead sweeps through the clouds like a chill-out apotheosis. Franzis-D has improved strongly using more specific music based in a deep, melodic and atmospheric feelings.
The EP including the remix of Chris Fortier who tune back up to techno vibe, and while his methods are genuinely pushing the sound forward, the end result is more than serviceable a nicely detailed house tool capable of drawing clubbers to the floor like ants to a ripe piece of fruit. Robbie Jay & ReDub remix taking a rather psychedelic approach, honeyed synths encase this central motif, resulting in a pleasant trip, a feeling helped along by the cut's intricate percussion and massive bass line.
The last remix on this EP is from Mariano Laffabrick, it takes a stance that's many things: tense, gentle, elegant and symphonic, kicks and other percussion soon join the party, but ultimately they're just diversions on the way to the huge, growling bassline unleashed somewhere near the halfway mark.
