Why?
to say that david cameron is just like most people in the country is deluded. he's extremely privileged compared to most people in the country and will not have grown up with anything like the same experiences or opportunities, he's also had a career trajectory few people would expect and works in a position only a handful ever do. he is not like most people.

to say that he's just doing is best is trivial. like hutyluty says, he has motivations and beliefs just like everyone else, and he can be judged on those. in his case he subscribes to an ideology which i find rationally contradictory and ethically malign. he chooses to be in a party which can discuss really horribly destructive policies and hardly vociferously objects to them.

to say that most of us have no idea about the variables on which they make decisions is just silly. the information on which people in power make decisions is more generally available than it has ever been before, we have even had insights into secret diplomatic communications etc of recent times. perhaps most people don't avail themselves of that information but that's not true of most of the people i know who oppose the tories

as for luck and pessimism, nobody is just judging david cameron, or anyone else in the political class, on how his actions affect those in this country. pessimism: a lot of people have good reason to be pessimistic about the future as living standards are going to go down and as conservative policy substantially negatively affects the most vulnerable people in the country. does david cameron give a shit? no, he doesn't, not really, and it's fair to judge him for that.

mental health provision is being cut, people are being forced to move hundreds of miles, the DWP are harassing people into illness and suicide. this is real and it is happening to real people as a result of his policies, and it is NOT inevitable that they happen this way. there are some absolutely terrifying things in the pipeline so yes i am pessimistic about the future as is and should be any young person who doesn't have a secure job or a family with property.

that said, im not going to pretend that most of what happens within societies and economies globally is within the control of particular people, as we have "created a monster" so to speak, but people like david cameron and his capitalist mates certainly have more power within these systems than other people, indeed that is part of how the system works. and that doesn't mean he doesn't have a choice as to whether he supports absurd, exploitative or harmful policies like the NHS reform and workfare which help no one except capitalists at the expense of everyone else. he DOES. if other people can look in from outside and critique these policies he certainly can. but he doesn't, because his ideological stance views these things as OKAY. it is not a huge stretch to call someone evil on that basis.

i really have very little time for anyone who wants to accuse people of "moaning" or saying that people have got it good in this country or whatever. it's really easy to say that and ignore real injustice and real PREVENTABLE suffering. but if the government in power is going to elect to put policies into place which do real and substantial harm to people i care about, then thanks but i'm going to exercise my right to call those in that government all the names under the sun.

well you'll never know because if I did, and chose to mourn them, it would be in private. public grief is crass.
