How Long would it take to become a PRO??

Pro producer of course
And By Pro I mean a designing/mixing/mastering master. I heard of the 10,000 hour rule. That seems abit too much doesn't it?

I'm still in my third week of producing.

I reckon 1 year to 3 years depending on the person

Some people are just absolute monsters when it comes to mixing and mastering and have an amazing ear. Others need to work hard at it, study hard, practice hard!

Ive been doing this for 2.5 years and I feel like I still have a LOT to learn. There are many aspects to music production, and mastering all of them in a year( or even 2 or 3) is imposable imo. Rappone, my advice would be to focus on the present, and try not to focus on where you'll be in the future too much. It takes time, but with persistence you'll get it. also, to truly make pro tunes, you'll need allot of musical knowledge as well as technical knowledge, imo.

It's all a different journey for all. Some get professional in a matter of a couple years to decades. Some work and practice hard while some just have the natural talent and ear for it. Personally, I feel I'm in between, with some given talent but most of my progress came from practice and hard work. Don't forget how much you must sacrifice to learn such a task. I believe I've sacrificed a decent chunk of my social life for this, sadly I am not at that professional level yet but I feel I'm over that hump of the mountain if you know what I mean

There literally is no answer to this question. I hope you are very patient cause I think it's a lot more time and effort than you are expecting.

Sounds about right.

But as Murder Musket mentioned, focus on the present. I've been at music production shy of 3 years and playing music in general for about 6, and I've still got plenty to learn, and by no means do I consider myself "PRO". My friend has been at music production 7 years, and while I consider him extremely talented, he doesn't consider himself "PRO" either.

Everyone gets where they are in music one tune at a time, so just keep focusing on improving from track to track. There's no other way to do it really.

And remember you don't have to be a phenomenal virtuoso to make good music. Sometimes that lack of knowledge is what makes something charming/emotional.

I have been making tunes for 2 years. Not great. cant make money off it. Not pro. I imagine it takes years and years of dedication.

All depends on the amount of effort you put into it really. If you quit your job, stock up on provisions, and lock yourself in your studio 18 hours a day, I'm pretty sure you could start making money off producing in a matter of months.

On the other hand, if you spend most of your computer time on Facebook or World of Warcraft, you won't be pro in 10 years.

Yeah, what actually classes as being a pro, even if you have a big release there is still stuff to learn, there is always stuff to learn and improve on

Very hard question to answer... Honestly I think that the majority of the people who are considered to be 'pro' haven't learned this in 1 or 2 years, but rather 5-15 years. I've been making music for about ten years now from which 5 years really serious and do I consider myself pro? Hell no! I learn new things each day!

there seems to be a conception that once you're a "pro," you stop learning things. couldn't be farther from the truth.

perhaps not as relevant to just producing your own music, but those of us who make/play/record/produce music for a living are really in constant competition with one another. Any skill i may learn that will make things sound better, get things done faster, make something more interesting/compelling-- that's a skill i NEED. YESTERDAY. In many ways, being on the cutting edge of what's available and possible is more important the farther up the chain you go.

True, being a pro doesn't mean you stop learning, not in anything.

But I agree, once you clear that check, you're a pro.

And true about locking urself up vs spending time on facebook and WoW or cod. It's different for everyone I guess, was just wondering.

Don't expect that... Seriously.

Can I ask how old you are? I don't want to sound insulting, but it does seem like kind of a naive way to think. While it's absolutely true that some people just rock shit and can make money off of music production within a few years, 99.99% of people who make music don't have the skill/talent/luck to make that happen.

Checklist for being a famous producer/DJ:
1. Really really really really really like music.
2. Work your balls off.
