Deep Medi's Worst QC Ever?!

Post by lowphat » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:38 am

Recently purchased some records from Juno that arrived today. Unfortunately 1 is completely fucked, and 1 has a scratch on it.

Now the first one, which unfortunately is a Medi record.. well let the pictures speak

a side 1 http://i48.tinypic.com/4jqs9j.jpg
a side 2 http://i48.tinypic.com/2jdxmd.jpg
a side 3 http://i50.tinypic.com/j7vjes.jpg
a side 4 http://i50.tinypic.com/2nvfs50.jpg
a side 5 http://i48.tinypic.com/b47uas.jpg

b side 1 http://i48.tinypic.com/2rffok9.jpg
b side 2 http://i45.tinypic.com/2rmp536.jpg
b side 3 http://i49.tinypic.com/b5k1mw.jpg
b side 4 http://i46.tinypic.com/2zox939.jpg

This is disc 1, disc 2 is completely fine. Those specs are chips out of the vinyl, essentially 1 whole half. Now, in no way am I slandering Deep Medi, but fuck me, what the fuck are the QC guys doing at these pressing plants? I can understand a scratch could scrape through, but a whole half of a record with bloody chips taken out of it? Christ.

I understand that these things happen, there are human errors, but more and more often am I seeing this type of thing in the vinyl industry, is it really that hard to take 2 seconds to look at a record??

Let's hope Juno send me a replacement for free, otherwise I'm gunna have to fork out more than I paid for the record just for bloody shipping.

:u: :u: :u: :u: :P: :P: :P: :P: :P:

Why not? Just asking, nothing hostile.

I'd say if they're putting their name to it, its up to them to put out a good product. I know this is probably 1 record in a 1000, but still, it's not a good look, especially as one of the most prominent vinyl labels.

what do you expect, for them to go through every single record that gets pressed and inspect it?

the blame obviously lies with the pressing place

Not sure how many they press, guessing somewhere within the region of a thousand, but it would literally only take a second to have a glance at each record and check for obvious defects.

I'm just saying dude, if I had an ipod and it was fucked straight out the box, I'd be complaining to Apple, not the chinese manufacturing plant. If you put your name on something, you have to accept the blame if it fucks up (especially if you're gonna pride yourself on vinyl more than most other labels). Just because it's Mala and crew, doesn't make it any different. It's nothing personal against them, and I'm sure it'll get sorted easily enough. :)

True from both sides though.

If my company produces a bad product, we are held liable for the product.
If that product ends up on a Mercedes Benz, Mercedes are liable and they will in turn hold us liable.
So it definitely works it's way down the list of involved parties.

I really think the blame mostly lies with the pressing plant. As far as I understand it, they have people to check for these kinds of things, and if they are sealed with the plastic, really once the label get's them they assume the plant has done what they were paid to do. But then again, I'm not a label owner nor a pressing plant employee, so I can't say for sure.

I just hope the label are aware or at least become aware of the issue so they can sort it out with their supplier.

Shouldn't be any problems (unless the records sold out now). It's not worth the hassle for someone as big as juno to not give you a free one.

alright, well obviously it's a difference in opinion, but it's not like medi runs the pressing plant.

if i go buy a newspaper or something and there's pages that are fucked, i'm not gonna blame the paper, i'll blame the printing press.

The perfect example just came up at work for me actually. We're an IT company that on a project has taken a third party tool that we customise and pass onto our client. The client have no way of talking to the third party whatsoever, it all goes through us. There's a defect in the third party tool (an area we haven't customised) that wasn't spotted by us (we can't possibly test every permutation in the software, it would take hundreds of years), and the client noticed. Whilst it wasn't strictly out fault, our company still put our name to the product and said "we're happy for this to go out". Hence it's understandable that we get some stick from the client, and we'll sort it out with the third party and try to ensure it doesn't happen again, so that our reputation is upheld.

My only point is, if you put your name to something, expect to hold SOME responsibility when it goes wrong. Nothing more than that.

Peace out Phig roll. :w:

fair nuff, i agree there's definitely some responsibility on both sides i just think its overwhelmingly on the pressing plant though

anyways, +1 on contacting juno. dont normally buy vinyl from them, but if theyre anything like the other shops, they'll replace it hassle free

No doubt the blame's on them, they caused the problem, the responsibility is on the label though, unfortunately.
