about sub bass
As of right now I have used operator for the sub bass track of literally every track I have ever produced. I am working on mac with Ableton. I am pretty happy with the sound of operator, but I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion of anything they thought could potentially do the job any better than Operator. I am not unhappy with Operator, but am always looking to improve sound quality in anyway I can. Thanks for any suggestions in advance

Re: about sub bass
Pure sine is all you need, doesn't matter where it comes from. Operator is fine. If you want to lose some power and gain some warmth, you can lowpass a reece with resonance and compress/saturate it, but you will lose some power to gain the warmth. Or you can pitch an 808 kick, low pass, and pitch it to C then load it in a sampler if you just want a boom/decay type feel. All in all, if you're talking pure sine sub...a sine wave is universally the same whether you use Operator, Massive, Albino, Predator, Sylenth, etc. Don't get trapped thinking something else will make you sound better. If you feel you don't have your sub cutting through enough, highpass everything else at around 100hz to make sure you have the extra headroom in the sub area.Kit Fysto wrote:As of right now I have used operator for the sub bass track of literally every track I have ever produced. All this has already been covered before btw... please take the initiative next time and use the search function before posting questions. I'm having to sift through pages of redundant threads to find anything decent these days.
Re: about sub bass
Alright thanks for the input. It was more of a question of a synths audio engine quality. I mean, maybe its just me, but a sine coming out of massive doesn't sound the same to me as operator. Only reason I brought it up. I have seen tons of posts about how to make sub bass, but this was not one. Sorry for the confusion and redundant posting

Re: about sub bass
I got a pack of analogue sourced sub bass samples a while back which you can load into Kontakt. Nearly all are more than a plain sine, so I end up lowpassing them, but some sound really nice and warm. Just another option if you're bored of the standard sine/saw wave style subs and want a bit of character.
I also got Phaeleh's sample pack ages ago and contacted him about how he made the sub bass samples because to me they sounded loads better than the some of the sine based patches I was getting out of Massive/3xOSC - apparently he pretty much only uses pure sines without any compression. I guess sometimes what synth you use may play a role.

Re: about sub bass
To me it's about how the sub comes out in the mix next to all other elements.. I don't really word about it alone.. just make sure its on the right notes and a clean sine without any eq/compression
Re: about sub bass
It's cool...this forum is going to shit, I've been grumpy. In massive, just make sure you have the volume turned up if you are using only 1 sin osc, because at default it's only gonna be at half volume or so. But sub isn't about hearing as much as feeling. As long as you leave proper headroom for it and have it pretty high in the mix, on good system it will feel good.Kit Fysto wrote:Alright thanks for the input. As much as I hate loopmasters, they put out a pack by Phaeleh a long time ago that had Kontakt subs...a few of them sound really huge and the pack was decent.
