ACCESS VIRUS TI

Post by ludofuzz » Sat Mar 31, 2007 1:20 pm

I want an ACESS VIRUS TI.(desktop)......so I'm gonna sell my car!

I wouldn't mind a 2nd hand one to save some £,...... anyone know of one?

The cheapest i can get one is through a friend at soundcontrol...though tis still expensive.

You'd sell your motor for a synth? That's dedication.

i wouldnt if i were u, they're good but not nearly worth the cash imo, a friend of mine has 1 and the "total integration" claim is a gross exaduration, loses sync all the time

From what I've heard everyone that bought one has to go back to using the old MIDI in MIDI out ports. The only reason I'd want it is for it's software-ness.

Maybe you could try it in your setup before buying?

exactly, you'd be better off with a second hand virus C imo

I have played on one several times....for lengnthly anmounts of time.

I thought the usb connection meant you don't need midi/audio cables.......... thats what it says on the wnma release video.

Also losing sync? What with your vst seq (logic for instance) How can it when the software opens up in logic. There is an external sync.

I appreciate the replies of user knowledge. Anymore out there?

Bah, I wouldn't drop that kind of cheese on a softsynth-in-a-plastic-box myself. You can have alot more fun with something like a DSI Evolver and a Moog phatty for the same money, and they're both real analogs, and the evolver is a mean effectbox with its external input and wavetables as well. A magnificent pair. :)

iv owned a virus b and c and now have a virus ti. id say its definitely worth the money, the integration is very good and i dont suffer sync issues at all using the new OS2.02 update. Im running it in Logic Pro 7 but i do have some problems with random popping and crackling whilst using in Ableton 6...however this is only when using the Virus Control plugin.

Its a very versatile synth and you can get some great atmospheres and pads using the various wavetables and now you also have graintable AND formant based oscillators...the sound design possibilities are vast. The fx section [as with previous models] is first class, its definitely one of the best features.

The filters sound great [especially combined with delay] and you can also feed audio into the input and process breaks or any audio using the ti's filter and fx sections [oscillators are bypassed].

It does have a few downsides though.

- you only have 2 possible stereo outs in plugin mode [1-2, 3-4], it would have been good if you had more outs so you could seperate each sound onto its own aux channel within your daw.

- the lower mid range bass is great, but...i find the subs can be abit muddy, you can still get good tones but when i compare its low end to certain other synths it doesnt quite hold up as well.

peace 8)

Anyone complaining about TI not working, loosing sync, popping, etc should download the latest OS and give that a go.

Check out Zebra 2 it's based on the virus, good sound, there's even a bank of the original virus presets someone's done.

Had my TI polar for a year now. first six months were pretty rubbish, lost sync etc...

#BUT, the virus team worked real heard to fix problems, constantly bringing out updates for the firmware and software, so now it works really well.

BUT, mixing down tracks is...a...mission. reason being is it has to be real-time for the virus to work. so whole tracks can take some time! problem being if your mixing down a bass track with LFO automation and other stuff, one glitch can ruin the whole thing, and 'one glitch' it does i'm afraid.

another issue is it doesn't work well with reason re-wired into your your host sequencer, mine being cubase, but that may be my set-up.

another issue, that i have argued with the guys from virus tech, is that YOU CAN'T AUTOMATE THE LFO'S WHEN THEY ARE CLOCK-SYNCED. so all automation is f f free-style, which is a NIGHTMARE!! not impossible, but not easy. the peeps at virus won't change this, its not a fault, its built in, and well annoying.

to be honest, i wouldn't mind selling mine. its got SICK sounds in it, but i have other soft synths like absynth and massive that do compare...and they were free.... the virus was £1500. lot of dough.

go down to turn key, they have loads of them set-up ready for a fiddle, and they work on commission in there, so are always willing to help in anyway possible.

if you wanna see what i mean by the LFO's being un-synced, check my myspace for a recent track done with un-synced LFO automation, its pretty tight, but you can still tell the difference -

I have a virus TI in my studio along with a lil phatty, and they are totally used for different things. There is a lot the phatty can do that the virus cant and vice versa...

that being said, the virus is probably one of the most versatile synths around and in terms of hardware, I think one of the only synths I will still use...
