This also applies to 14-15 yr olds, just because you've hit puberty and are physically capable of reproducing doesn't mean you are mentally ready for it yet, this is why the age of consent is as it is. Lord knows I wasn't ready for a heavily involved sexual relationship when I was fifteen, I thought I was at the time but in hindsight I really wasn't, Highly doubt many other 15 year olds are either

You've proved it by saying you'd got involved in a sexual relationship before 16. I did too. Kids these days don't have a different mindset than we did. It's more to protect them from older predatory types than to actually prevent them having sex. I'm not going to bother lecturing my kids about waiting until they are of legal age to have sex. I'll be emphasising that if they feel ready then they sure as fuck better make sure they use protection. But also that if they don't feel ready that they shouldn't feel pressured to do so.

I think you've misunderstood, we're actually more or less on the same wavelength here tbh, i didn't give a shit about the age of consent at the time either, it was only on reflection a few years later I realised it was a bad idea, I wasn't saying kids have to wait till they hit 16 before going at it, that would be hypocritical of me, my point was more that at that age people are still very impressionable and thats why the age of consent is as it is, as a kind of safeguard against 'older predatory types' (admittedly i didnt make that point very clear). If a 14 yr old wants to fuck another 14 yr old then fine, do it, I don't really care but that doesn't mean we should lower the age of consent to 14 to accommodate all these horny teenagers as it would leave people open to exploitation at an age where their brain is still developing.
