if the synth is mono though, it should cut off the previous noteVirtualMark wrote:The problem with turning up the release of the sub, is that your sub notes can sometimes overlap if you're using lots of synths, causing a spike in the output and possible clipping or distortion. Ideally sub bass should be fairly tight and controlled as it takes up a lot of headroom.
What i do is to make my basses, duplicate the tracks and make a sine patch for each bass. Then render to audio and manually fade the ends of the sub out - this way i can both make sure there's no overlap and also get rid of any clicks.

Sure, if you're using just one synth with a mono legato patch, then there wouldn't be any clicking. Until the note is released - you can still bounce to audio and apply a fade at the end of that.VirtualMark wrote:your sub notes can sometimes overlap if you're using lots of synths

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
well then you can turn the polyphonic mode off surely? AKA only one note can be played at the time.
plus, just a tiny bit of release (not much audible) gets rid of the click

That's why you'd want to use gliding and proper EQing.VirtualMark wrote:The problem with turning up the release of the sub, is that your sub notes can sometimes overlap if you're using lots of synths

Sigh.. please explain how you glide between two different synths?bkwsk wrote:That's why you'd want to use gliding and proper EQing.
I don't think anyone has read my post properly - i'm not talking about one synth, usually when i make a tune i use lots of synths and have many basses. I then duplicate the basses and make a sine sub patch for each - this way it follows what the bass is doing. I then bounce to audio and fade the ends of the sub slightly, to delete overlap and get rid of clicks.

Clip fades are far more convenient, i think Ableton fades by default to remove clicks. I mostly use Cubase, you just drag the corner of the audio file, done. All DAWs should do it - I think this image is from Logic:johney wrote:volume automation then.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
Do you guys ever use one synth for both kick and sub? I've been messing around with playing a note and using the pitchbend wheel to slide down 24 semi tones.
Re: Popping sound on sub bass
How does that clip fader on ableton work? Is that like choosing where the sample will end or what?
Total Noob Alert Sorry fellas haha
And also ive always had the latency at 512 and its worked fine

It's just a standard fade-in / fade-out curve which you can customise in some ways. Only works for audio clips though, that function is not available for MIDI clips.

yeah, just turn up the attack on the synth. or low-pass it to all hell. or compress it. I usually come across this when making a sub in Massive, but never 3xOsc, and my usual solution is turning the attack up. ives it some depth too, not just a sudden OKAY HERE IS SUB, sort of like subtle wobble garagey kinda effect.
I make sounds with other sounds (and sometimes without)

This thread again....................... throw a utility on after it and turn it to mono, make sure the voices are at 1, download synth1 or any other freeware and see if it's still happening. There's so many things it could be that aren't related to you making any mistakes in operator or massive. Soundcard, other settings, etc.

record yourself eating popcorn and reverse the phase whilst playing the sub and it will cancel out.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
or just put a lowpass filter at the end of the signal chain? works in reason lol
Re: Popping sound on sub bass
wait so you use a new sub bass patch for each synth? i just have 1 sub bass patch and copy the notes to it from the different synths and then just automate the sub bass on the different sections to follow the synth. usually just pitch automation, lfo to volume and things like that.VirtualMark wrote:Sigh.. please explain how you glide between two different synths?bkwsk wrote:That's why you'd want to use gliding and proper EQing.

as many others have said, it's 99.99999% most likely to do with attack and release settings

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
Sorry dudes i havent replied i'm having trouble accessing this site from my home computer.
Usually when i set up my sub its like this Operator (attack set between 40-50 release 50-200. 1 voice. Glide 5.99ms) ----> LPF Cutoff 30 and 100 ---> Utility set to mono.
How do you guys set up your attack/release?
Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it
