Yup, its "narrower" and "flatter" than it should be really.Parson wrote:"reason sound"
The lack of VST support is annoying too, but I suppose there is rewire.

you what? Reason is one of the best programs around. Rewire through cubasse (or insert your favorite platform here) and you've got a medium through which you can make serious beats without spending serious cash. It is true that anyone can come up with some beats nowadays with the accessibility of reason/fruityloops, etc. But, that doesn't mean that the beats are good. Creativity is the key. And you can't buy that. Dunno how many producers I know that have got fuck-all for a setup but make amazing music. We've made entire tunes in reason just running them through cubase at the end for some multiband compression that are fat.
Long live the reason.

Really, this is right.lloydnoise wrote:Reason is shit. Cubase, Live and Reaktor all the way.
Reason is a tool for learning synthesis, thats it.
Ive made tracks in it (some of my best) just to prove that it could do some crazy shit, but it was like trying to swim upstream in a river.
And i can totally concur with FESTA, i work in tech support, the worst are these people who "Just wanna Poduse" or people who liken themselves as "a musician, not a computa programma"
Reason makes producing with little knowledge easy. What does that mean for the quality of the output though? Black Eyed Pee's (their pants) for example...
Ok, that looks a bit more like ranting out on the forum, sorry...
I should append my thoughts by saying, I think Reason is great to start from, and you can lay out some good stuff with it, but its a stepping stone to bigger and better things... If you let it be.
Its a good way to learn the techniques and theory behind this stuff, there are just a million other things to use out there, and many of them will take you and your sounds to new places...
Dont get hyper focused, is what im saying in a long winded and jerky way.

If you know what to do with it, reason is pretty good.
Like most other production software, reason is only shit if you don't know how to use it.
Some people are aggy towards it because of the perception that it makes beat-making a less exclusive process. As far as I can see this isn't something to be too worried about. Obviously it will lead to quite a lot of shit productions, but it will also open the doors to the ideas of people who could otherwise not produce.
I remember reading an interview with TeeBee, and he spent half of it going on about how he hated reason and that it was leading to every kid making beats on their dads PCs, instead of spending thousands on "proper" equipment like a "real producer" (i.e. him). Aside from this seeming a bit grouchy, I think its also a bit backwards thinking. If kids making beats on reason are threatening to you, either you need to catch up with the technology, or realise that the record buyers in your scene have shit taste (i.e are buying up poorly produced shite...In DnB I suspect it may be a combination of these 2 factors...). Blaming reason for its ease of use, or the "kids" for making music seems pretty stupid to me.
Anyway - anti-rant over
