How much does resampling affect sound?

For this example I'll use Datsik. He uses resampling to get his basses. My question is, how different is the final bass compared to the bass straight out of the synth, with no effects added? Is resampling used to completely change the sound, or just to make it more powerful?

the basic process of re-sampling doesn't actually change the sound at all as all you're doing is compressing what the synth/daw is calculating down into a wave file. The term 're-sampling' or bouncing is usually used as a generic term that covers any number of processing, that could be literally anything you would usually add to the signal chain anyway during your sound design; before -re-sampling' and doing it all again in a slightly different way (there are various reasons for this, almost purely to do with computer resource management and timing, very very seldom to so with timbre). It's a bit of a cultural faux pas in that respect. Don't confuse the term 're-sampling' with something that colours or changes your sound in and of it's self, the meaning behind that term can be so far reaching and wide cast as to be insignificant in regard to what the person saying it actually means by that.

tl;dr. Forget about re-sampling and learn sound design, that's where the money is, all else is misunderstanding.

resampling is just a workflow thing really, it allows you to overcome limits or bypass complicated ways of doing thing in a DAW.

Asking what resampling does to a sound is kind of like asking what zooming in to a waveform on a screen does - absolutely nothing by itself, but it can make processing your sound easier.

as everyone already said, resampling is the same as adding additional effects, just with lower cpu load. it really depends on which effects you add.

Yar, if you're running several instances of Massive with a bunch of plug-ins and your cpu is crapping out, it's time to bounce down to an audio file. This in and of itself does not change the sound at all....unless you're running some type of process as it's recording.
