Hi, I finished a 4 song demo a couple months back and now I'm interested in sending it out to some labels. The problem is that I have no idea which labels would be most appropriate, in terms of style. I figured there are probably people here who are more familiar than I am. Here's a set with the four songs. Perhaps you have some recommendations?

the track feels pretty empty to me. the drumwork is constant and gets repetitive. i like the samples used tho. the panning on the vocal is a little overdone IMO. It also drowns out the track.
I'd say work some more on your production before sending out to labels. get that sound you want.

If you can't find a label suitable, you could release through Bandcamp yourself.

Yeah, I've thought about that. In fact, I'd almost prefer that. It's just a label will handle distribution and promotion. Nobody knows who I am, and I'm not a DJ or a live performer, so the likely result is that it will just sit on Bandcamp with no traffic. I loathe having to engage in self-promotion. Plus, I've already moved on to new projects. This was more of an experiment that I might revisit at some point. Normally my music sounds more like this: https://soundcloud.com/dobotomy/schrieb/s-stS0L . Anyway, with a label, there's a slightly greater chance that other people will hear my music.wub wrote:If you can't find a label suitable, you could release through Bandcamp yourself.

If you don't want to promote yourself, why are you concerned with getting signed to a label?
Re: B'Kao Caerp - Pyi (minimal/electrofunkish)
That's what a record label does, no? You become part of a collective of artists, and if people are familiar with the label, then they will find you. If you're just some random musician, then you can only be associated with yourself. The problem with self-promotion is that you are just another voice in a sea of voices (yes, I get that it's similar with labels, but there's a bit more consolidation). Post a song to a group in Soundcloud and maybe a couple people hear it, but soon enough it's been replaced by 50 other people posting to the same group. I think most people promote themselves by playing their songs at clubs as DJs, but like I said, I'm not a DJ nor do I care to be. I figured I'd try sending it out to a few record labels and see if I can catch anyone's attention. The problem is that I don't know where to start. I don't know which labels promote this kind of sound, which is why I posted this here, hoping to get some ideas from people who might know better than I do.wub wrote:If you don't want to promote yourself, why are you concerned with getting signed to a label?
