Distance's Session is wicked for this, and some of the stuff he's putting out is pretty different too.
I can't say that the Bass Weight stuff has me too excited though, been going or long time now.
It was good to see everyone going mental for Vaccine at the house party! Deep tune thats got plenty going on and still isn't too 'masculine'.

totally i had warm up slot for d&b night in edinburgh on sat. My mate who was promoting the night had insisted i pick things up towards the end of my set. Shame as i had lot more deep dubstep i could have dropped. Managed to play 2562 & mundo tho! But dubstep is takin a while to catch on up in scotland. There's not enough dubstep happenin up here for it to become predictable yet!
i have to admit this year has seen a glut of predictable wobblers released. But i still feel theres plenty more on offer if you dig a different vibe. My only worry is that as the scene grow & gains more attention the darker/faster stuff will become the main focus. There's a decent base of producers makin good thought provoking original dubstep. I just hope as dubstep becomes bigger there's still room for this stuff to get the airplay/sales & respect it deserves.

You wouldn't support the suggestions re: mixing of dubstep and heavy metal then?

From what I remember, and I was severly addled so this may not be entirely true, the main room at the party on Saturday died a bit when the d&b/jungley stuff came on. Folk with dreads and layered clothing hopping about to it I think. The smaller room was on fire though.

If you're a big DJ instead of feeling the need to smash it all the time, why not take the odd risk ... that's the advantage of bass weight: people will stay with you.
2nd
Its about the drop nowadays not about the meditation... Allthough there are a lot of good guys still playing the dubstep i like...
To be honest the meditation can fuck off'n'all - it's a club not a temple. I'm actually finding the bass weight a bit boring now as there seem to be loads of tunes which really don't have anything else going for them - is it still that much of a novelty people?
hahaha. You don't really like dubstep do you.
It's got potential I think, just not a lot floating my boat at the moment. Well quite a lot of good stuff but not much of it getting released.
Horsepower to the rescue I hope

Hmm....

Ah, that might have been my mind playing tricks on me. I distinctly remember seeing a girl with big dreds hopping around making shapes though. I think I decided to leave at that point.

whoa, SOOO sorry to affect your gentle sensibilities!
Dont take my mention of Japanese girls as a racist epithet. I love asian girls, i just dont prefer the kind of music that the "Hello Kitty purse" carrying crowd dig, or make.
and trust me, my dick is generally plugged right into a bassbin!

People are different though innit. We all react in different ways, enjoy doing different things etc...
The only thing that bugs me about the 'meditation' thing is that a lot of people who seem to endorse it when it comes to music are absolutely fucking insufferable. I have been known to zone out slightly and enjoy "eyes closed business" as much as the next chap, but if you ever catch me wearing an excessive amount of beads and/or a poncho, or performing some twisted variety of tai chi whilst eating tofu salad on the dancefloor at DMZ, please fucking shoot me.

Is it just me, or are some tracks starting to turn into something resembling Hard House?
Maybe I'm listening wrong.

I don't smoke weed etc so I can't really comment on the medative effects of the 'bass weight' - isn't that just people mythologising things a bit?
I appreciate the deep stuff and the bangers etc but I am with Ben on this one - it's a bit OTT to equate a few sine waves and a redrum file with a shaolin monk abstaining from sex with naked porns stars while he's on mud and balancing on one toe on top of a samurai sword while reciting the national anthem backwards...
Its just music innit...

i can honestly say that i get physical relief from huge bass.
I have back problems and it really feels good.
Nothing like direct physical satisfaction from music.

Interestings points about the different perceptions of dark. I've generally preferred the breaksteppier end of things and love Shonks and TRG.....
To me halfstep and wobble cliches are cheesy not dark or hard...they may however be instantly gratifying on a dancefloor....
As for deep.....Sully springs to mind, subtle minor key melodies and avant-garde atmosphere are what i hear as deep and dark...burial is the big name with a sound like this.....certainly not over masculine.....
As for the club ethic i noticed this more than ever before at dubraizer....Boomnoise crafted an excellent set starting off with some 2step flavours and then rinsing a number of bangers to climax....there was a huge difference between the crowd at the start and finish.
I went deeper to build up and a lot of the boozed jump abouters left leaving a skeleton audience who were really into it....as i built up the crowds grew and by the end the room was livelier.....i'm glad people were feeling it but think that some were missing out on the whole set just hearing a few of the tunes....it's like reading the last chapter of a book, you know what happened but it's not contexualised. Missing a set as a whole means that you are not taken anywhere by a set and if people are just going for anthems is it better to play an amazing set that goes places or just bang them out as the crowds will be bigger and they will probably think that your set was better than it was as it full of huge, loud and bass heavy tracks.
