this is big. but it's a sad state of affairs when london time out reviews wouldn't touch something like this with a barge poll.

They did that big DMZ artical last year but, i think the London Time Out tends to cater very much for the middle ground. What do you expect? It a listings mag and has to appeal to the majority.
I've always been at odds with the film reviews in there. They give the films i think are shite really good reviews and the films i think are good they tend to pretty much pan. We have the odd eye to eye agreement but, generally they can fuck off.
I find a lot of the other articles condescending aswell. Oh, and they'll give any old pile of shite restaurant a Time Out recomendation as long as it's in a part of town they think is eather cool or up and coming. Basicly if one of they're writer's live around the area it's cool.

timeout is generally ok.

all i was getting at is that i can't imagine their review section opening up to include a shackleton release on crosstown rebels.

they seem to stick very firmly within conservative flavour of the month boundaries.

They're not there to be boundry pushers though. So it makes sense for them to write about the flavour of the month. Fundementaly they have to write about what they think they're reader's will be interested in.

It does seem odd that the NYC print is pushing the sound and the LDN one has largely ignored what is a home grown scene.

I could imagine some journo who's into world music would really dig Shackleton. How the Time Out even heard about him or Dubstep in the first place is another matter though. very surprising

we're very blessed here in nyc with timeout ny. the two main music writers, mike wolf and bruce tantum are fans of dubstep. they really understand it too and aren't writing about it from the hype perspective, which is the best part. real journalists!! nearly all their reviews of other music are on point as well!

Yeah but, in an way it kind of sums up the UK attitude to most things though. People here are just a little to cool for school. It's a loss to them.
I think it might have some thing to do with the fact that we've had so many scene's that have promised so much, and ultimatly failed to deliver. So you end up with a lot of over expectant, jaded people.
It's meadia driven iv'e heard. Every one is looking for the next best thing and cant see what is in front of them.
