No idea why i've only just joined, I fucking love dubstep. Living in-between raving, working, and my sound tech level 3 at college. I'm a producer (currently sufferring from the worst musical-creativity-pilly-willy imaginable) just starting to take this business seriously. Currently listening to youngsta smashing it on rinse. LOVE.

Hey Guys, My name is MikeB, I have no frackin' idea how to produce Dubstep and I'm not here to learn either. I started to like dubstep in 2009 but I did not know the name of the genre plus I had so much work to do during the past years that I did not even bother to search for the right term. So I (just recently) quit my office job (or slave job) to pursue what I think is my passion. I love music and I appreciate kickass music. I am a blogger so I'm basically here to get insights and some sick stuff. I started a trial dubstep blog introducing dubstep to people here in Asia. I post some famous UK and US tunes and other stuff I personally like. I don't want to mix underground and mainstream though so can you guys help me understand the difference? I was thinking of maybe UKF is underground and Skrillex or most brostep are mainstream, correct? Thanks!

Nope

What UKF uploads is mostly considered the very definition of brostep, and is about as mainstream as dubstep gets. I mean come on man, listen to a typical UKF tune:

Then listen to some actual 'underground' shit:

I really don't understand why you'd start a dubstep blog when by your own admittance you hardly know anything about the genre, but good luck with it either way I guess.

Actually, I figured the difference right after I posted this. lol. Thanks for your help though. :Q:

ok then, but I still don't see the purpose of this blog. I mean, it's embarrassingly misinformed for a start, and why would anyone want to learn about a genre from someone who is only just discovering it himself anyway? Like, half of the shit you've written on it is just paraphrased from Wikipedia. Be patient man, you'd want to spend like a year getting into it and gaining a broad understanding before you try to educate other people. At this point, you can't offer anything that someone else isn't already doing much, much better than you.

It's actually hard to explain on a dubstep standpoint. In Internet marketing terms, the blog I created is basically a conversation starter. Should someone with a deep understanding about the genre stumble upon the blog, and have the same point of view as yours, he/she will surely comment. Like mass media, good or bad publicity is still publicity and will gain attention. I am using the blog personally and does not have the purpose of "Teaching" which means any visitor doesn't need to "Learn". I'm using the site as a portal and does not target the same traffic this forums gets because of search engine optimization. I don't want to go through the details as I will need to explain internet marketing, social dynamics, keyword research and youtube video marketing. In simple terms, its a strategy.

In simple terms, it's a silly strategy.
